What is an audio essay?
▪ An audio essay is an essay created to be heard as a voice recording
rather than read silently as text.
▪ The audio essay uses many of the similar steps as a written essay, but
applies principles of audio composition, such as strategic use of sound
effects.
▪ An audio essay allows the use of more expressive and natural language.
It uses a conversational style and vivid images for effect.
Objective
▪ To better understand and articulate ideas about a
chosen theme or subject.
▪ Make a good quality audio recording.
▪ Do basic audio editing, combining voice and music
tracks.
Structure of an Audio Essay

a clear statement about what will be the topic and argument.
▪ Demonstrate your point of view about the topic with instances
and examples as evidence.
▪ Use topic sentences and transitions to signal continuity
between ideas.
▪ Use shorter sentences that are coherent.
▪ Conclude with a closing statement about your ideas and
argument.
Your turn…
▪ Choose any one of the following topics:
▪ Value of Communication
▪ Role of Friendship
▪ Effects of Good Health
▪ Value of Positive Entertainment
▪ On your chosen topic, create an audio essay transcript for an audio essay of
four minutes. Give a title to your essay.
▪ Next, record your audio essay. Replay it to yourself to assess if further
revisions need to be made to your transcript.
▪ After revisions, record again to upload and share.
