Introduction:
The Youth Creative Expression Workshop Series is a proposed project aimed at
providing high school students, particularly those in Grade 12, with a platform to
explore and develop their creative writing skills. Through a series of workshops,
students will be guided by professional writers, poets, and educators to help them
hone their craft and discover various creative outlets such as fiction, poetry,
scriptwriting, and spoken word.
This project addresses the growing need to support students' emotional, intellectual,
and creative growth, fostering a sense of community and artistic expression.
Rationale or Background:
In today’s fast-paced and often stressful educational environment, students are
constantly facing academic pressures that leave little room for self-expression and
creativity. Numerous studies show that creative outlets like writing can help reduce
stress, increase emotional intelligence, and improve academic performance.
However, many schools lack the resources or platforms to nurture these skills in
young individuals.
This project seeks to fill that gap by offering students a safe space to channel their
thoughts, emotions, and ideas into writing. It also aligns with the national
curriculum’s goal of fostering critical thinking, creativity, and communication among
students. Moreover, the workshops will cater to students of diverse backgrounds,
promoting inclusivity and equal opportunities in creative arts.
Project Description:
The Youth Creative Expression Workshop Series consists of six sessions, each
focused on a different aspect of creative writing, including fiction, poetry, drama, and
spoken word. Each session will be facilitated by a guest writer or educator with
expertise in the given genre.
The sessions will cover:
1. Introduction to Fiction Writing
2. Exploring Poetry
3. Dramatic Writing (Plays and Screenwriting)
4. Writing for Spoken Word and Performance
5. Storytelling through Visual Narratives (Comics, Graphic Novels)
6. Revision and Publication
Each workshop will be interactive, featuring writing prompts, group activities, and
personalized feedback. The final workshop will focus on editing, refining, and
publishing work, encouraging students to share their creations in an end-of-program
showcase.
Project Needs and Costs:
The success of the Youth Creative Expression Workshop Series depends on
securing necessary resources to deliver a high-quality program. Below are the
estimated needs and associated costs:
VENUE RENTAL (if not provided by the school) ₱1,200 x 6 days = ₱7,200
Honorarium for Guest Writers/Educators ₱900 x 3 educators = ₱2,700
Workshop Materials (Notebooks, Pens, ₱500
Handouts)
Marketing and Promotion ₱300
Snacks and Refreshments ₱600
Certificates and Awards for Final Showcase ₱300
TOTAL ESTIMATED COST: ₱11,600
This project will require funding support from the school administration, local
sponsors, or community grants. In-kind contributions, such as venue space or
snacks, may help lower costs.
