Possible Projects In discussing his 5th flattener, Friedman discusses the role of fiber-optic cable. Writing from the cables point of view, comment on your experiences (minimum 2 typed pages). You are a venture capitalist with money to spend. Design or recommend a project you would underwrite (minimum 2 typed pages). Imagine yourself in the role of an Indian in a call center. Describe your day and your thoughts (you could also do this with a partner/ group as a one-act play). Design a sculpture/ painting conveying the principles of globalization. Chinese, Hindu (Urdu), and Russian might be offered in your school next year, if there is enough interest. Explain which one you would pick, and why. Write a proposal for the school assembly, justifying the time and expenses (minimum 2 typed pages).. Compose a piece of music conveying your (or Friedmans) thoughts about globalization. Be prepared to explain it. Your teachers want to use cell phones and wireless devices as part of the curriculum. Write a letter explaining why you would leave the school if this occurs (minimum 2 typed pages).. Develop a list of neologisms of the last decade (new words to describe new ideas or products), and add some of your own. Write a letter or design a brochure (pamphlet, leaflet, etc.) for a child explaining whether or not you will be buying toys made in China during this holiday season. Be sure to make your reasoning understandable for a child.

The projects listed above are not a comprehensive list. They are suggestions that can be further adapted. Most of the projects can be completed in pairs or small groups. Extend the length accordingly. You will be graded on your demonstrated understanding of the concepts, your ability to fulfill formal expectations about deadlines and format; the quality (visual, artistic, acoustic, literary and creative result), and your oral class presentation. Your use of the English language will count for approximately 50% of your grade. Your projects are due January 16th. The grade will count for the second semester.
