January 16th 7pm Committee Room 4

In Attendance: Jessica McGrellis, Mark Scott, Lauren McDougall, Steen Weidemann, Tom Lambourn, Jo Arnott, Kit Moreland, Elliot McGonigle, Erin MacKenzie, Kirsty Smith (19:41). Meeting Started: 19:19 Meeting Adjourned: 20:15 Apologies: Simon Tsolakidis Committee Business 1. Upcoming event updates Monday Drop-Ins Turn out is really low so we need to work on trying to encourage more people to come! Pub Crawl Feedback Great event, only feedback would be to start earlier if we did a similar event in future as not all of the teams got to finish the route. The photos will be uploaded to Facebook for the scoring. Committee turn-out was quite low, it was acknowledged that everyone sent apologies however if possible please try to come to every Wednesday event. Same-Sex Salsa (18th Jan) Everything is organised. The event starts at 8pm in Qudos. Campaigns launch (25th Jan) Erin has contacted the religious student societies to ask if they would like to attend but hasn t had any feedback yet. Kit, Elliot, James and Erin will be sitting on the panel for the event and a q&a. Jess has been speaking with Ellie Munro (QMU Campaigns and Charities convenor) who is keen to be involved with our campaigns. It was questioned whether we want to open our campaign angle wider than purely religion, which is something that Erin will look at. Ellie mentioned that she may be looking at a campaign to tackle biphobia and this is definitely something we can get involved with. Lauren to book the Williams Room for the event (from 7.15) and will ask for permission to provide shortbread (for Burns Night). Cocktail Class (1st Feb) Vodka Wodka can offer us a class which involves making 3 cocktails and having a shake-off competition. This will cost 15/head but we will look into reducing this price. Jo to clarify that this price includes 4 cocktails and to try and negotiate the price down a little. We also need to check if under 18s are allowed/if there is a virgin cocktail option. Once we have a final price Mark will look into how much we can subsidise the price, the ideal would be to get it down to 9/10 that each member has to pay. Police Workshop (8th Feb) Still not heard back, but a GFT trip is a back-up or we could watch a film from our collection.

Vicky Gunn (15th Feb) Everything is organised, Lauren to book the William s Room. Keith Sharpe (22nd Feb) Jess is still organising the final details for this. He would prefer a lecture theatre or space with a microphone - Lauren to look into Qudos. Suggested that once we have a venue we should print posters as this would be an event with a high level of interest from outwith the society. Debate (29th Feb) Debate was pencilled for the 1st of February but has now been moved to the 29th. The Dialectic Soc will book Jim s Bar and will look in to the sound issues we ve experienced in the past. Will probably have 3 speakers on each side, 2 dialectic members and 1 LGBT. However if we have more interest then we could have 4 on each side, 2 dialectics and 2 LGBT. Kit will take interest from people and will organise who will be speaking. Eric Anderson (7th March) Lauren to look into booking Qudos, if not look into another space. Farewell Dinner (14th March) The Reading Room is now free, Lauren to book this and find out whether the bar will open. Women s Event (31st Jan or 2nd Feb) Jo looking into a film night followed by cocktails at Hummingbird.

2. Queer Fest and Carnival The QMU are very interested in having Queer Cheesy on the Friday of Queer Fest. They are happy for it to be as queer as we like and are interested in bringing in drag acts etc. We have leeway on how outrageous or tame we would like it to be! Polo are giving us free entry that night too so we need to let our members know that they can also go there. G1 are on-board with giving attendees free entry over the weekend and have gold bands we can give people to wear to show they are from Queer Fest. They are also keen for us to use their venues during the day on Saturday, e.g. if we would like to hold our brunch in one of their spaces they could organise catering. They will open the bar for us wherever we decide to hold any of our day-time events. They have also offered Polo on Sunday to hold a cinema day and they have all of equipment to do this however we also have the option of contacting the Flying Duck for this too. G1 have offered us the mezzanine in Delmonica s before Polo on the Saturday, once we have decided our full list of events and have a better understanding of numbers we will decide where we want to go for a pre Pink Party party! Noted that perhaps we are a little low on the workshop front for Queer Fest. Jess mentioned that an organisation have been in touch with her who can give a workshop/talk from their members who have been granted asylum in the UK due to being LGBT. Jess will contact them to find out more about transport costs etc. Decided that if we are contacting universities as far North as Aberdeen that we should also be contacting Universities in the North of England and Northern Ireland. Each committee member to contact a number of universities by Thursday at the latest.

Lauren to contact Susan Calman to ask about doing an event for Queer Fest.
