Captain N: Heroes Reborn

PROLOUGE

Somewhere deep in the heart of X-Land...

The possibilities... The infinite possibilities... And here he had been wasting his time on those two relics... The information in the ancient database he found in the ancient ruin had given him a plethora of possibilities. The data was a century out-of-date, and many of the relevant files were corrupted, but there it was. X-Land's biggest secret. It wasn't alone in the cosmos. The mad scientist who had created this database most assuredly tried, with his feeble tech, to utilize the information to his own benefit. The data files were chock full of blueprints for ridiculous war machines, terrain choices and, eventually, designing a robot that confirmed all that he had already suspected, and that robot's ultimate fate. As he perused the files for another few minutes, plans began to form. There was a design for something called a Zion Shield that had great promise, a map of ethereal connector tunnels that connected various Lands together through rips in the fabric of space/time. And... NO!!! It couldnt be... but it was. A video clip that explained so

much to him that it all started to make sense finally. The reason so many reploids went Maverick all at once... the reason for even his existence...and the existence of his hated rivals... and two secrets about one of them. One dark, and one interesting... Immediately, he transferred himself to the powerful scanner that rested in the citadel, reactivating what tech he could. It was primitive by his standards, barely able to withstand his awesome power. But then, it was created a while ago, in another tech age for his land. Its purpose was to scan these other lands, universes, or realities, to find objects of power, biological organisms (disgusting...), or the tech that existed in that era. Transferring power from the energy core that existed deep within the core of the fortress (which was shaped like a human skull, so odd...), and siphoned enough to activate the scanner. Gliding through the primitive OS, he found the command strings that would allow him to see these other lands for himself. Eagerly, he activated the program, and with a whine of protest, it complied. Instantly, his mind was filled with images. A cloud-covered mountaintop, populated with all sorts of mythological creatures, angels, and monsters. A dark, gothic world terrorized by a being who was dead, yet not dead, a land where creatures sucked your life-force from you, regardless of defenses. His own world, complete with those hated relics. And something else... Interesting, he thought to himself. Very interesting indeed. If I could occupy that area, all this would be mine. HA! Thats the plan, then! But I will require assistance, since I know nothing of these places. He recalibrated the scanner to find entities that could help him in his conquest. He had a wonderfully loyal minion, of course, so that could counter any problems from his own area. Now, to find others...

He scanned and scanned, making notes as to possibles. So many damn organics. He despised organics, since humans tried to dominate him. Still, these bioforms would be knowledgeable of the local physics and terrain, and even this magic he kept encountering. He didnt believe in magic, of course. Science explained all, if given enough time. But whatever the locals called it, it could be useful. He scanned, and settled on a list of a few with great potential: A being called a Darknut in a land called Hyrule, and a couple of strong, yet dimwitted mutations from a land where terrapins knew fighting styles and lived in waste tunnels. He actually admired their fashion sense, for some reason he couldnt quite explain, usually he could care less about this thing organics called fashion. But the garishness of one of them reminded him of a former associate, and that amused him. Separating from the scanner, he found the transmitter he stumbled onto, and used it to transport himself back to his base of operations deep in the canyons. There, he returned to his body, and re-synched, reactivating himself. Is all as you expected, Master? A helmeted figure with a cannon mounted on his right shoulder asked. Even better, Vile. The site held such promise. My ambitions have grown beyond even this paltry world. Soon I shall control all that exists. And you shall stand by me when I rule, old friend. said the figure. As you wish, Master. was Viles reply. Sigma smiled. It was never a pleasant smile, always showing malice and evil, confidence and cunning. Vile was his, body and soul, or whatever passed for a soul in the body of a Maverick. The two hated entities, X and Zero, no longer mattered to him at all. Only the

ability to rule all of Videoland mattered.

And he had a plan on how to do it.

Dad! Im Home!

With this proclamation, the door slammed shut, and a red, white, and grey blur streaked across the living room, up the stairs, and nearly made it to the door of its room before a male voice, slightly older-sounding in its bass reverb, shouted You got homework?
