You are a head nurse in emergency department which consists of 20 beds, and there are 15 patients in this ED,

categories as the following: category one: 6 patients, category two: 4 patients, category three: 3 patients, category four 2,
otherwise the shift option in this department is 12 hours and the actual working days per month 13 shift.

Based on the previous data calculate how many nurses needed to cover the schedule of unit /month?

Total Nursing Care hr /day

• Category I 6 X 4.8 = 28.8 hr/day Category II 4 X 6.2 = 24.8 hr/day

• Category III 3 X 8.2 = 24.6 hr/day Category VI 2 X 10.8 = 21.6 hr/day

• Total nursing care hr/day = 28.8 + 24.8 + 24.6 + 21.6 = 99.8 hr/day
