Implementation Plan for New Technology

Technology: Automated Patient Monitoring System (APMS)

Timeline:
Weeks 1-4: Needs assessment and staff consultation (A needs assessment will be conducted, and staff
will be asked to identify requirements and address concerns).
Weeks 5-6: Vendor selection and procurement (A suitable vendor will be selected to complete system
procurement).
Weeks 7-10: Staff training and system testing (Staff training will be conducted to familiarize them with
the technology and system testing to ensure functionality).
Weeks 11-12: The system will go live with initial monitoring to address any issues.
Week 13 onward: Continuous evaluation and improvement will ensure the system meets its objectives
and adapts to user feedback.

1. How does technology create safer environments for patient care? How does it improve quality
nursing care?
Technology is becoming an essential element in today healthcare setting not only influencing patients’
safety and their care outcomes but also influencing the nursing work system and productivity. As nurse
managers it is our responsibility to disseminate the necessary technology literacy to guarantee the
efficiency in the acquisition and adoption of these technologies. Technology generates protective
scenario for patient treatment in various aspects. EMR recommends medication administration by
accessing the database of individual patient allergies and drug interaction in real-time (Al-Worafi,
2023). Likewise, computerized physician order entry CPOE decreases the errors arising from the use of
handwritten orders. It also enhances quality nursing care through better communication, utilization of
evidence based information when making decisions as well as enhanced patient education (Almanaa,
2024). Currently, about ninety percent of the hospitals in the USA have implemented Electronic Health
Records (EHRs) has enhanced documentation and access to patient information. These systems are
used by the nurses for giving medications, co-coordinating care, and for tracking down the patients
consequently decreasing the rate of medication errors and enhancing patient results (Idoko et al., 2024).

2. How does technology improve the efficiency of the bedside nurse?

Technology makes the bedside work more efficient by minimizing writing and paperwork, thus
increasing productivity. Nurses get to spend less time charting because of EMRs, offering them more
time with the patients. Modern portable devices and computer systems enable enhancing and
supporting clinician’s decision making processes concerning the protocols and patient’s data that lead
to timely actions. For instance, with automated medication dispensing systems, the delivery time of
medication is also shortened and the right amount of medication is also dispensed. These efficiencies
ensure the nurses work smart in order to achieve the best of the results out of the limited time span to
help their patients. The integration of technology aligns with the biblical principle of stewardship, as
described in Proverbs [Link] “Making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to
understanding.”

3. How does the nurse manager role impact the use of technology, and more importantly the
correct use of technology?

Several factors influence the use and the correct use of technology, more especially the nurse managers.
They have a critical role playing as watchdogs when it comes to the use of technology by setting
expectations, providing training, and monitoring compliance. They have to be the role models
promoting change-ready organization culture and accountability. As a part of the larger responsibilities
of a nurse manager, it is their responsibility to determine readiness of the staff, to address resistance,
and to act as a bridge between the IT teams and clinical staff. Appropriate supervision guarantees the
technology works as intended, which will be to the greatest benefit of the patients as well as the
management of the health care facility (Finkelman, 2016).

4. How would change theories be considered in your plan?

When it comes to technology implementation in healthcare setting, change theories are useful in order
to plan an effective change process. My technology implementation plan includes Lewin’s Change
Management Model which provides a structured approach through its three stages. These stages include
unfreezing, changing, and refreezing (ELLIS, 2023). During the unfreezing stage, workers will be
educated on the benefits and need of the technology in order to raise awareness and address initial
resistance. This requires clear communication about how the technology will improve patient care,
streamline procedures, and fit with corporate goals. The shifting stage will focus on giving hands-on
training, allowing employees to interact with the technology in a supportive setting, and resolving any
adoption hurdles, such as technical difficulties or resistance to change. Finally, the refreezing step will
strengthen the new processes by tracking their efficacy, gathering feedback, and providing continuous
assistance to guarantee long-term viability. This systematic strategy will increase employee
involvement, decreases resistance, and builds a culture of flexibility. Using change theories such as
Lewin’s model, healthcare institutions may efficiently incorporate new technology while reducing
disruptions and improving overall outcomes.

5. How does the hospital/healthcare environment benefit?

Technology provides tools for wise and efficient management of healthcare resources, emphasizing the
value of human life and well-being (Finkelman, 2016). 1 John 4:1 calls for continuous appreciation and
assessment of the supports so that the technology formulates in a clear standpoint of the goal of
providing sensitive care. Healthcare facilities can therefore achieve improved patient safety, operational
efficiency, and even save costs through technology. The adoption of these advanced technologies
increases care co-ordination, decreases hospital-acquired conditions, and increases compliance to set
standards.

Hi Angela,
Your discussion on the implementation and benefits of Avis as a virtual sitter is truly insightful. The
use of such technology not only improves patient safety, but it also considerably increases nursing
efficiency. The reduction in the demand for one-on-one sitters highlights how healthcare technology
may reduce staffing issues while also creating a safer environment for high-risk patients. Research
supports your observation that video monitoring is a cost-effective solution to reduce falls and other
adverse events (Ergai et al., 2024). Furthermore, the implementation approach you mentioned
emphasizes the necessity of staff training and competence evaluations, which are consistent with best
practices for integrating new technology into healthcare. The self-care theory of Dorothea Orem
provides a great foundation for this discussion. As you mentioned, Avis helps patients keep their
independence, which is an important aspect of self-care. Independence gives residents and patients the
ability to direct their own care, support, and treatment, make their own decisions, and have their voices
heard (Petty, 2024). As a result, people’s dignity and respect are enhanced. This aligns with biblical
principles of stewardship and care. Proverbs 27:23 reminds us, “Be diligent to know the state of your
flocks, and attend to your herds,” highlighting the importance of attentive care. Moreover, using tools
like Avis allows nurses to fulfill the command in Galatians 6:2 to “bear one another’s burdens,”
ensuring patients receive compassionate and efficient care while minimizing risks.

Your perspectives on the role of technology in patient safety and nurse efficiency are persuasive. The
examples of barcoding and remote monitoring demonstrate how advances in informatics have reduced
mistakes and improved healthcare quality. As you indicated, electronic health records (EHRs) improve
communication and coordination among providers, which is essential for patient-centered care. Studies
suggest that using EHRs considerably decreases documentation time and improves patient data
accuracy, resulting in better clinical outcomes (Idoko et al., 2024). Furthermore, the use of telehealth,
particularly in remote settings like your healthcare facility, improves continuity of treatment and
minimizes geographical challenges.
Your plan to upgrade telemetry equipment demonstrates a proactive approach towards resolving patient
safety concerns. The use of change theories and shared decision-making aligns with effective strategies
for implementing technological innovations (Finkelman, 2019). This commitment to quality care
resonates with biblical teachings. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 states, “Two are better than one, because they
have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up.” This verse
highlights the importance of teamwork in achieving shared goals, such as improving patient care.
Furthermore, 1 Corinthians 14:40 encourages us to do everything “decently and in order,” which
reflects the methodical and deliberate approach you described for introducing new technologies.
