Summary of challenge to Practical Use of Wave Energy Conversion

Wave energy is very important as renewable energy which is used for power of offshore construction, fishery, power for desalinity of sea water and water purification, power for electric cars and for collection of rare metal dissolved in the sea water. Wave energy is proportional to square of wave height. . The

unit of wave energy is kW/unit length of wave crest line. In winter there is high energy of wave and in summer wave height is large so in the case of northern hemisphere wave energy move to northward and in summer move to southward direction. In the previous system, there are 2 system of wave energy; Oscillating Water

Column (OWC) and Movable Body Type. OWC has a good thing in structural strength. OWC has air chamber and it should be heavy to handle high buoyancy force. This condition caused OWC system is highly expensive. OWC has one directional torque. It caused low efficiency for moving the generator. The example of developed by JAMSTEC. The other type system is movable body type. The main advantage of this system is low cost system. The main problem is structural strength. The worst thing is caused by Dhurricane.There are several device which used this system. First is Salter Duck, it is non this system is mighty whale which

maintenance. The other advantage is it can control

horizontal motion, dynamic theory is simple and electric power can be calculated.
