Calculation
Fully Submerged
m = 0.35 kg and m = 0.25 kg
measured turning moment = 0.944 Nm and 0.674 Nm
Formula, h’’ = M per F

 Experimental
1. 0.944 per 6.295 = 0.15 m
Depth, d = h’ + H – h”
= 0.085 + 0.2 – 0.15
= 0.135m
 Theoretical
1. 0.944 per 6. 254 = 0.15 m

 Experimental
2. 0.674 per 4.496 = 0.15 m
Depth, d = h’ + H – h”
= 0.06 + 0.2 – 0.15
= 0.11m
 Theoretical
1. 0.674 per 4.415 = 0.15 m
Partially Submerged
m = 0.15 kg, m = 0.09 kg and 0.07
measured turning moment = 0.405 Nm, 0.243 Nm and 0.189 Nm
Formula, h’’ = M per F

 Experimental

1. h” = 0.405 per 2.698

= 0.135 m
h” = h” - H + d
= 0.15 – 0.1 + 0.085
= 0.135 m

 Theoretical

1. h” = 0.405 per 3.544

= 0.11 m
h” = h” - H + d
= 0.11 – 0.1 + 0.085
= 0.095 m

 Experimental

2. h” = 0.243 per 1.619

= 0.15 m
h” = h” - H + d
= 0.15 – 0.1 + 0.066
= 0.116 m
 Theoretical

2. h” = 0.243 per 2.137

= 0.11 m
h” = h” - H + d
= 0.11 – 0.1 + 0.066
= 0.076 m

 Experimental

3. h” = 0.189 per 1.259

= 0.15 m
h” = h” - H + d
= 0.15 – 0.1 + 0.059
= 0.109 m

 Theoretical

3. h” = 0.189 per 1.707

= 0.11 m
h” = h” - H + d
= 0.11 – 0.1 + 0.059
= 0.069 m
Discussion

Centre of pressure apparatus and dimension need to be use in this experiment. First,
all the apparatus must be set up to it levelling. Next, adjusted the counter balance weight
until the balance arm in horizontal position. Then, load is added by reducing a small mass to
the load hanger and release water from opening valve until balance arm in horizontal. After
that, measured and recoded the depth of immersion from the scale on the face of quadrant.
Repeat the step with different load. The formula used for this experiment is ,

H’’ = M / F

The data that we get from this experiment is different between theoretical results due to
human error. It happen due to parallax error which is the eyes were not 90֯ to the quadrant
reading.

CONCLUSION.

In conclusion we have achieved our objective which are to determine the hydrostatic
thrust acting on a plane surface immersed in water and the position of centre of pressure.
Hydrostatic thrust can be calculate by using the formula h”=M/F that have given to us. By fill
the formula that been given with the moment (M) and the distance of action of thrust
below the pivot (h”).

The result for the value that we get may not be same to the theoretical value that have
been given due to the error that occur during we conduct the experiment. Because of we
read the reading manually by using our eyes maybe there are some mistake of our eyes
level during read the scale reading.
