Character Trait for Feb: EMPATHY


EMPATHY- I respect and understand the feelings of others. I act with kindness and compassion.

Literacy Update:
This past month we have been focusing on persuasive writing, social issues in media, and synthesizing in reading (merging new information from the text with existing knowledge to achieve a new thought or perspective.) The Independent Reading Program continues to be an area of focus and we encourage students to read for 30 min on a nightly basis. A few class favourites include: The Hunger Games, The Shadow Children Series, The Lovely Bones, Elephant Run, Pretty Little Liars Series, Daniels Story, and The Help.

VandenBos Talent Showcase, grade 1-8


There is much to celebrate at VandenBos and we are proud to announce that we will be showcasing our many artistically talented students in the next few months. Look for more information on our website and flyers going home inviting grade 1-8 students to participate in VandenBos Talent Showcase. You dont want to miss out! Term 1 Report Cards


Reports will be going home Feb. 15. Parents and students are strongly encouraged to read it carefully, setting goals and reflecting on celebrations and next steps.

Getting Ready for High School" (GR4HS)


GR4HS is a free program, offered at the high school, to grade 8 students transitioning to grade 9. DATES: August 20-23, 2012 Monday - Thursday, 8:30am - 1:30 pm, Topics include an introduction of grade 9 math and English, study and homework skills, and time management. This transition program has proven to be highly successful in supporting students moving from grade 8 to grade 9. Watch for more information in the coming months.
