This
week
we
took
our
Iirst
math
test.
Almost
ALL
Scholars
are
meeting
our
Big
Goal
in
math!
We
started
counting
up
to
Iive.
We
will
continue
counting
and
learning
how
to
read
and
create
picture
graphs
next
week.
In
reading
we
have
been
using
pictures
and
what
we've
already
read
to
tell
what
we
think
will
happen
next.
We
also
learned
the
letters
H
and
J
and
the
sounds
they
make.
Please
ask
your
Scholars
about
"hammerhead"
and
"jeweler"
and
practice
with
them!
Next
week
we
will
practice
K
and
L
and
we
will
work
on
the
sight
words
I
and
can.
During
our
expedition,
we
will
begin
interviewing
people
who
work
in
our
school
community
to
learn
more
about
their
jobs.
This week in music, we performed our Hello songs in unison. Unison is when the whole class sings the same song together. We found different ways to move to the big beat in the song. Try coming up with your own way to move to the big beat of your favorite song. This Friday at Town Hall, all scholars performed the Alma del Mar school chant.
First
grade
scholars
have
been
working
hard
this
week
to
master
number
stories
and
number
bonds.
Our
scholars
have
done
amazing
drawing
and
writing
to
show
how
two
parts
come
together
to
make
a
whole.
Next
week,
we
are
excited
to
begin
a
unit
on
addition.
The Iirst grade team would like to make sure that all of our families are clear about the homework expectations. While your scholar is required to spend 30 minutes each night reading, we do not expect reading to be an independent, silent activity. Families are encouraged to read to or with their scholars during these 30 minutes. Look for a page of helpful homework hints in your scholars folder, and please call us if you have any additional questions! This week in literacy, the Class of 2026 has been working on making predictions while we read. We started differentiated hard work. In math, we are continuing to become experts at number bonds. Our Expedition is well underway, and scholars are learning how to use map features like a compass and a key. This weekend, ask your scholar to show you which was is North!
