Hi Everyone,
On the 23rd May the students enjoyed a performance of The Barber of Seville. Opera Australia came to our school and performed to the whole school. It was a delightful production and has introduced our students to the magic of opera.

RIDDELL WRAP

Hands Up if you think Kids Matter?

On the evening of Thursday 23rd of May the school hosted a Kidsmatter workshop. Parents were invited to attend the evening which focused on how we approach the social and emotional learning of our students. Guest Speaker was Margaret Milne. We had a excellent turnout with 57 parents attending. It was lovely to launch our Kidsmatter initiative alongside a great recap of the underlying principles of the YCDI program by Marg Milne. RCPS uses YCDI as our social emotional learning program in both the classroom and the yard as well as restorative practises for when things go wrong. KidsMatter is a mental health and wellbeing framework for primary schools and makes a positive difference to the lives of Australian children. It is a flexible, whole-school approach to improving childrens mental health and wellbeing. We need to work together on ways of improving and sustaining our childrens mental wellbeing. Through KidsMatter Primary, schools undertake a two-to three-year cyclical process in which they plan and take action to be a positive community; one that is founded on respectful relationships and a sense of belonging and inclusion, and that promotes: social and emotional learning (including evidence -based social and emotional learning programs) working authentically with parents, carers and families support for students who may be experiencing mental health difficulties. By taking on KidsMatter, we hope to build on the work that we are already doing in these areas. The school KidsMatter action team will be working hard this year to lift the profile of childrens good mental health in all aspects of their lives at home and school. This means working closely with you and our school community.
