Assistant Professor of Special Education The Special Education Program within the Department of Educational Leadership and Special

Education in the College of Education and Human Services at Shippensburg University is seeking candidates for a newly created tenure-track position in the Special Education Program at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August 2012. We are seeking a broadly trained Special Educator to teach special education courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. This position supports our undergraduate education programs and the Special Education graduate programs in learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities, behavior disorders and Comprehensive Certification PK-8 and 712. The certification program is accredited by NCATE. Duties will include teaching and advising; curriculum development; supervision of student teachers; and a commitment to scholarly growth and services. Membership in various departmental and university committees is strongly encouraged. Faculty are expected to work closely with public school districts within the Universitys service region. Opportunities for summer teaching are available. Qualifications: A doctorate in special education or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution is required. Candidates in the process of completing such a degree may be considered, but a terminal degree is required for tenure. Experience teaching students with IEPs or IFSPs is required. Candidates must hold special education certification in Pennsylvania or the equivalent from another state. The following are highly desirable: special education teaching experience in early childhood and K-6 grade levels, teaching pre-service college age students, scholarly work in the form of publications and/or presentations, and BCBA certification. A demonstration of teaching effectiveness will be required as part of the on-campus interview. Candidates should provide a portfolio or other evidence of scholarly ability, teaching, research, service, and a commitment to understanding diverse populations.
