In-Service Testing of Electrical Equipment

This course is designed to train persons to safely and correctly carry out the testing and tagging of single and three phase electrical equipment. The course teaches participants to visually and electrically test equipment using a Portable Appliance Tester (PAT) to ensure the electrical safety of equipment to Australian Standard AS/NZS 3760. The course does not cover the testing of fixed wiring. On completion you will be able to: Describe the basic effects of electric shock State the international colour code for three core flexible leads List four methods used to prevent shock, providing electrical safety Explain how each of the four shock prevention methods helps to prevent electric shock Using a check list as a guide, make visual inspections of electrical equipment to identify faults Identify the test parameters for the electrical testing of equipment Use the appropriate testing device to test electrical equipment in accordance with correct testing procedures Distinguish between safe and faulty equipment Correctly tag electrical equipment and record test results in a record book Assessment Outcomes: Successful participants will be issued with a TAFEPLUS Certificate of Completion. After completing this course, successful participants will have demonstrated the knowledge and skills to meet the WorkCover guidelines for safety testing and tagging of appropriate leads and small appliances. The course does not cover the testing of any fixed wiring Equipment required to conduct these tests needs to be purchased by the student or employer prior to testing equipment in the field Persons qualified by this course satisfy the WorkCover Authority for appropriate testing and tagging only when an approved appliance testing instrument is used Entry Requirement: UEENEEE001B Apply OH&S in the Workplace OR Work Safely in the Construction Industry (white card) AND Current Senior First Aid Certificate
