Rules and Guidelines


for
ESSAY WRITING

Participants

This contest is open for all grade levels (Grades 7 to 12). There will
be 2 representatives for each section.

Area to be Used

The event shall be held in the LHS Building, Room 209.

Mechanics of the Event

1. Rules & guidelines

1. The contest will be open to all LHS students. Limited to 1


representative for each section. One (1) representative of each
section.

2. All essays must depict or be connected to the theme of this


event, "Protecting the Rights of Indigenous Peoples in Voluntary
Isolation and Initial Contact." in celebration of the UNITED
NATIONS month.

3. The board of judges will provide the topics of the essay at the
venue of the competition.

4. The essay shall be written in English in not less than 600


words but not more than 800 words. Corresponding deduction
will be given to entries that did not reach the minimum number
of words.

5. The essays will be done on 1 whole Pad paper, which the


Social Studies Society Club will provide; However, participants
shall bring their own pen and pencil.

6. The contestants will be given two (hours) to develop a


composition.
7. The contestants will use a number on their paper.The same
number will be written on another piece of paper together with
the real name and the section where they come from. This will be
used for verification of the winners later.

8. Essays containing inappropriate content such as, but are not


limited to profanity, and promoting bad behavior will not be
shown in the final results and the writer promptly disqualified
from the contest.

9. No books, materials, dictionaries and the like shall be brought


inside the contest venue.

10. No person shall be allowed inside the contest venue


except the contestants and the proctors.

11. The result of the contest will be posted on the tally


board immediately after the judges have finished rating them.
The judges decision is final.

b. Determining the winner

 There are 3 total winners: 1st Place, 2nd Place, and 3rd Place,

 Students must have complied to the rules & guidelines of the


contest, and have met the judging criteria.

 Essays will be judged after 11:30 AM, and the judges shall have the
final vote.

Content 50%
(Relevance, Appropriate Language, Comprehensiveness,
Clarity of thought)

Date & Time of Conduct

Students will be given thirty (30) minutes of preparation before the


starting time for registration and check-in. The event will start at
exactly 9:00 AM and will end at exactly 11:00 AM. Participants will
be given two (2) hours to complete their Essays.
