INTER-HIGH SCHOOL JUNIOR LIS WIZARD


Contest Rules

This will be held on February 26, 2011.


Open to all bona fide public and private high school students.
Every participating school could send up to three (3) teams composed of two (2) students per team. Names
of participants should be sent to the organizers not later than February 24, 2011, through this website,
http://libspeak.upflipp.org/registration/, or through sending a text to 0926-7226817 (MRose).
Each student of a participating team should pay a Registration Fee of PHP 50.00.
The registration proper will be on February 26, 2011 at the Bulwagang Tandang Sora, CSWCD, University of the
Philippines Diliman, Quezon City, and will start at exactly 7:00 AM and will end at 8:00 AM. The contest proper
will start at exactly 8:30 AM and will end at 11:00 AM. Late participants will not be entertained. Participants
should present an ID upon registration.
The contest proper will start at exactly 8:30 AM and will end at 11:00 AM.
This will be a team quiz bee-type competition composed of two (2) students per team.
The coverage will be current issues, general information, and general knowledge about the library.
The questions for both elimination and finals will be taken from publications chosen by the organizers and
the Philippine Daily Inquirer published during the whole month of January and February.
There will be three (3) rounds: Easy, Average, and Difficult.
Each question will be worth 1 point for the Easy round; 2 points for the Average round; and 3 points for the
Difficult round.
To answer each question, the participants will be given 10 seconds for the Easy round; 15 seconds for the
Average round; and 25 seconds for the Difficult round.
The questions will be read twice by the quizmaster. On the signal “Go”, the participants will start writing their
answers, and on the signal “Stop”, they will stop writing and raise their boards.
If a participant has any question, he/she must raise his/her hand and address the question to the quizmaster.
Protests shall only be entertained before the next question is read. The decision of the judges will be final
and irrevocable.
The scores will be added. The three teams with the highest scores will be declared the champion, first
runner-up, and second runner-up, respectively.
In case of a tie, five (5) questions will be asked to break the tie. Fifteen (15) seconds will be allotted to answer
each question.
The winners will receive:
First Prize: P 3,000 cash + medals + certificate of recognition to the school
Second Prize: P 2,000 cash + medals + certificate of recognition to the school
Third Prize: P 1,000 cash + medals + certificate of recognition to the school
The school of the winning team will have the honor of keeping the Key of Excellence in Junior LIS Wizard and
is entitled to a free registration fee for the next LibSpeak’s Inter-High School Junior LIS Wizard.
All participants will receive a certificate of participation.
The announcement of winners and awarding of prizes will be held during the Closing Ceremony of the
LibSpeak 2011 (Conference and Contest) on February 26, 2011, Saturday, at the Bulwagang Tandang Sora,
CSWCD, University of the Philippines Diliman, Quezon City.

Contest Rules
Contest Proper
This will be held on February 26, 2011.

This will be an on-the-spot essay writing contest.
Mentors, coaches, teachers, and parents will not be allowed to assist or remain near the participants during
the contest proper.
The essay should revolve around the theme: “The Key to Evolution: Technology Energizing the Library”.
The participants must write their entries with a minimum of three hundred fifty (350) words and a maximum
of five hundred (500) words, only during the contest proper. Participants must make sure that their
handwriting is legible.
Entries should not be in any form of fiction, poetry, drama, review, or summary of existing literature related
to the subject. Title and content must be original. Plagiarism is a ground for disqualification of the participant
from the said contest.
Participants are required to bring their own ball point pen in either black or blue colored ink. Papers will be
provided by the organizers.
Participants will be given 150 minutes or two and a half (2½) hours to accomplish their work. They may opt to
finish earlier than the given time, but exceeding the time limit will incur a violation.
As for the identification of the entries, only the number assigned to the participants should appear on their
final work. Any hint or mention of the name, school, or any form of identification in the entry per se, unless
deemed necessary by the board of judges, shall be considered a violation.
Any violation of the rules is equivalent to a 2-point deduction from the final score, for each rule violated.
All participants will receive a certificate of participation.
The top three (3) entries will be chosen by the judges. Their decision is final and irrevocable.
The announcement of winners and awarding of prizes will be held during the Closing Ceremony of the
LibSpeak 2011 (Conference and Contest) on February 26, 2011, Saturday, at the Bulwagang Tandang Sora,
CSWCD, University of the Philippines Diliman, Quezon City.
The winners will receive:
First Prize: P 2,000 cash + medal + certificate of recognition to the school
Second Prize: P 1,200 cash + medal + certificate of recognition to the school
Third Prize: P 800 cash + medal + certificate of recognition to the school
All entries shall automatically become the property of UP FLIPP.

The poster should be an artistic interpretation of the theme: “The Key to Evolution: Technology Energizing
the Library”.
The poster must be done in a portrait orientation on a 20” x 30” illustration board. The illustration boards will
be provided by the organizers.
Participants can use acrylic, colored pencils, charcoal, craypas, pastels, watercolors, tempera, or any
combination of these media. Participants are required to bring their own art materials.
Participants will be given 150 minutes or two and a half (2½) hours to accomplish their work. They may opt to
finish earlier than the given time, but exceeding the time limit will incur a violation.
As for the identification of the entries, only the number assigned to the participants should appear on their
final work. Any hint or mention of the name, school, or any form of identification in the entry per se, unless
deemed necessary by the board of judges, shall be considered a violation.
Any violation of the rules is equivalent to a 2-point deduction from the final score, for each rule violated.
