Mechanics of Essay Writing Contest for Samalenyos

I. Contest Overview:
a. The Essay Writing Contest is open exclusively to all residents of Samal Island,
known as "Samalenyos."
b. This contest aims to promote and celebrate the literary talents of Samalenyos
while encouraging creativity and critical thinking.
II. Eligibility:
a. Participants must be permanent residents of Samal Island.
b. Age requirement: Participants must be 18 years old or above. (Ikaw na bahala
ani boss)
c. All participants must have a strong command of the English language.
III. Theme:
a. "LNK: Ignite the Fire Within."
IV. Essay Guidelines:
a. The essay must be written in English and should be original and unpublished.
b. Word count: Essays should be between 500 to 1000 words.
c. Format: All submissions must be in Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) format,
double-spaced, and in Times New Roman font size 12.
d. Title: Include the title of the essay at the top of the document.
V. Submission Process:
a. All participants must submit their entries via email to

b. In the email's subject line, participants should write: "Essay Writing Contest
Submission: [Title of the Essay]."
c. The body of the email must contain the participant's full name, age, complete
address, and contact number.

VI. Submission Deadline:


a. The submission period will be from [Start Date] to [End Date].
b. Any essays received after the deadline will not be considered.

Criteria for Judging Essay Writing Contest


Content (Relevance to the Theme) - 40%
Creativity and Originality - 30%
Structure and Organization - 15%
Language and Style - 10%
Impact and Persuasiveness - 5%

Mechanics of Extemporaneous Speaking

I. Objective
The extemporaneous speaking contest aims to promote public speaking skills,
critical thinking, and effective communication among Samalenyos. Participants
will have the opportunity to showcase their ability to think on their feet and
deliver compelling speeches on various topics.
II. Eligibility
1. Participants must be residents of Samal Island, also known as Samalenyos, and
must be able to provide proof of residence if requested.
2. The contest is open to individuals of all ages, backgrounds, and professions.

III. Registration
1. Interested participants must register online or in person during the designated
registration period.
2. Registrants must provide their full name, age, contact information, and proof of
Samal Island residency.

IV. Format
1. The contest will be conducted in multiple rounds, including the preliminary,
semi-final, and final rounds.
2. Each round will have a specific topic, and participants will be given limited
preparation time before speaking.
3. The contest will be held in front of a live audience and a panel of judges.

V. Preliminary Round
1. Participants will be randomly assigned a topic related to local or global issues.
2. They will have 10 minutes to prepare their speech.
3. Each speech should be between 3 to 5 minutes in length.

VI. Semi-Final Round


1. Successful participants from the preliminary round will advance to the semi-
finals.
2. The format will remain the same, but the topics will be more challenging and
thought-provoking.
3. Participants will have 15 minutes to prepare their speech, and their speeches
should be between 4 to 6 minutes in length.

VII. Final Round


1. The top participants from the semi-finals will compete in the final round.
2. The difficulty level of the topics will increase, and participants will be expected
to deliver persuasive and well-structured speeches.
3. Participants will have 20 minutes to prepare their speech, and their speeches
should be between 5 to 7 minutes in length.
