CALL FOR ESSAYS

THEME: FOUNDATIONS FOR A SUSTAINABLE EECONOMIC TRANSFORMATION IN KENYA

The Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis (KIPPRA) is planning its 5th Annual Regional
Conference scheduled to take place in June 2022. The aim of the conference is to exchange views on building
strong foundations to propel sustainable economic transformation in Kenya. The conference offers a platform
for stakeholders to explore and discuss potential areas and opportunities to exploit in forging a common front
to accelerate achievement of a sustainable and inclusive development.

One of the programmes during the conference will be a side event for the youth, particularly the university
students, whose aim is to provide a platform for them to network and showcase their innovative ideas and
talents as well as gain tremendous knowledge and skills from experts. Included in the programme is an essay
competition whose area of focus is cultural diversity. The topic for this year’s conference essay is “How to
take advantage of cultural diversity to build strong foundations for sustainable economic
development”. The discussants to the debate are a select number of students who participate in an essay
competition.

This is, therefore, to call for interested students to enter this year’s conference essay competition by
submitting an original essay on the topic. The essays will be evaluated by a Joint Essay Competition
Evaluation Team comprising of staff from KIPRRA and university teaching staff. Students who will submit top
scoring essays will get a chance to present their essays during the conference and have them published on
the KIPPRA website. In addition, the top three scoring essays will win an award. All students who submit
their essays will be issued with certificates of participation in the essay competition.
