Energy Innovation Competition 2023

A. Competition Description
Energy Innovation Challenge 2023 is an annual program organized by the competition
management division of the Bandung Institute of Technology Student Section
Petroleum Engineering Expert Association (IATMI SM ITB). This program provides a
platform for students to express ideas, thoughts, innovations, views, and analyses
related to certain topics through paper and poster competitions. At EIC 2023, there is
one competition, namely a paper and poster competition. This competition’s aim is to
push development thinking, creativity, and positive contribution in face-related global
challenges of energy, as well as promote deep understanding of various aspects of it.

B. Theme
This year, EIC carries the theme "The Role of Oil and Gas in Sustainable Energy
Transition: Economic Impacts and Green Innovations." As an important pillar in
fulfillment, the oil and gas industry requires global energy and is under pressure to
transition to more environmentally friendly and sustainable practices. The theme
"Energy Transition: Green Practice for Sustainable Energy" invites participants to dive
deeper into innovations, strategies, and solutions that can lead to positive
transformation in this industry. The main key values we want to achieve: Eco-Friendly
Technology, Energy Efficiency, Energy Diversification, and Social & Economic
Aspects.

Below are the main sub-themes that can be chosen for each team:

1. “Responsible Oil and Gas Practice”

Responsible Oil and Gas Practice refers to the commitment and implementation
of ethical, sustainable, and environmentally conscious approaches within the oil
and gas industry. This sub-theme emphasizes the importance of conducting
operations with a keen awareness of environmental impact, community well-
being, and ethical considerations. It involves adopting best practices, innovative
technologies, and stringent regulations to minimize ecological footprints,
mitigate climate change effects, and ensure the responsible extraction,
production, and utilization of oil and gas resources. The focus is not only on
operational efficiency but also on fostering long-term environmental
stewardship, social responsibility, and ethical conduct throughout the entire
lifecycle of oil and gas activities. By embracing responsible practices,
organizations aim to strike a balance between meeting energy demands and
preserving the health of our planet and its communities.

2. “Environmental Friendly - Renewable Energy and Process”

This sub-theme focuses on the integration of renewable energy in oil and gas
operations to reduce dependence on fossil fuels. Research may address the use
of solar, wind, or biomass energy as alternative power sources. In addition,
creative thinking about how to modify extraction and production processes to
make them more environmentally friendly will become relevant. This could
include implementing green technologies, more efficient extraction methods,
and processing that reduces the carbon footprint.

3. “Business Innovations for Energy Transitions”

This sub-theme emphasizes ways in which the oil and gas industry can change
their business models to promote and support the transition to cleaner and more
sustainable energy sources, which are certainly feasible from a business
perspective. This innovation can take the form of developing business
innovations that implement sustainable practices, integrating digital technology
and artificial intelligence to increase operational efficiency, as well as ways to
monitor ongoing sustainable projects.
