Abstract Submission Guideline

INTRODUCTION

Research competition is an international competition in Indonesian International Medical


Olympiad (IMO) 2021 that is intended by medical students all around the world to exchange
their knowledge, broaden networks, and improve scientific skills. This competition will be held
online on 28 June - 22 October 2021 and consists of abstract submission and final stage that
gives opportunities.

Theme:
Together: Bridging Boundless Boundary, Transforming the Future of Medicine

The scopes are Biomedical Sciences, Medicine, and Public Health Medicine. Research topic is
free to decide as long as related to medicine.

- Registration: 26 June - 25 July 2021 (first wave) 26 July - 29 August 2021 (second wave)

- Full paper and Presentation Material Submission Deadline: 9 October 2021
- Technical Meeting: 16 October 2021
- Welcoming party: 21 October 2021

- Closing and Farewell party: 23 October 2021
GENERAL RULES

1. The team consists of 2-5 members with one (1) team leader.
2. Participants are undergraduate and clinical students of medical major (only applicable
for those who have not received their medical doctor degree) that are currently active
from the same university.
3. Participants are not allowed to register as olympiad participants in IMO 2021.
4. All finalists are obliged to attend virtually all series of events held during Indonesian
International Medical Olympiad (IMO) 2021 from technical meeting, welcoming party,
final round, seminar, closing and farewell party.
5. The abstract must be original work and has not been published in any journals or
presented in any competition, conference and/or events.
6. The type of research work that is accepted is original research only. Analytical study,
case report, and literature review are not permitted.
7. Participants can submit as many abstracts as they want, but only up to two abstracts will
be chosen to be presented on oral presentation day.
8. Participants can only be the first author in one submission / paper.
9. Papers should be made according to the format written in the guidelines.
10. Works cited must be from within the last 10 years.
11. The Organizing Committee reserves the right to publish the selected abstracts in the book
of abstracts. Any other use of the abstracts is conditioned to the authors’ permission.
12. Once chosen as finalists, participants must agree to compete in the later stage and write
the manuscript of the research which will be published in Sriwijaya Journal of Medicine
(national accredited journal of SINTA 4), proven by signing Paper Publication
Agreement Letter. The format of the manuscript will be announced later.
13. Participants must obey the rules and regulations.
14. Participants who are cheating either before, during or after the competition will be
disqualified.
15. Judges’ decisions are absolute.
ABSTRACT SUBMISSION

1. The abstract must be written in English and submitted in Ms. Word 2003 (*.doc) and pdf
format.
2. Paper size is A4 with margins of 4-4-3-3; 4 cm on the left, 4 cm on upper margin, 3 cm
for bottom and right margin.
3. The abstract is typed using Times New Roman font 12 pt, single-spaced (1) with justified
alignment.
4. Length of abstract is limited to 250 words excluding the title, name of affiliations,
keywords, and correspondence.
5. The title should be short and able to briefly describe the whole paper. The title should be
typed with Times New Roman font 12 pt, written in capital letters and bold with center
alignment (except for scientific names).
6. The author’s name is under the title. The author’s name should not be abbreviated and
the first author’s name should be written first. Author’s name should not include any title
or degree and should include the author’s university/institution name also corresponding
email address beneath the author’s institution name.
7. The abstract should be text-only; no graphics or tables are permitted.
8. Only standard abbreviations may be used in the text. They must be introduced by using
brackets just after the full word or phrase is typed for the first time. Subsequently, the
abbreviations alone may be used.
9. Use italics only when appropriate (e.g., for names of genus and species). Tables, graphs,
and images should not be included.
10. The abstract must include up to 5 keywords that are carefully selected to facilitate
readers’ search. Keywords can be single or compound words. Keywords are placed after
the abstract.
11. The abstract should not contain any special characters (e.g., å, ã, æ, ç, ê)
12. References are not included in the abstract.
Structure of Abstract:

3. Introduction
The introduction should introduce the background of the research that has been carried
out and should lead to a clearly stated hypothesis or set of objectives.
4. Material and methods
In this section, the authors should specify exactly what was done experimentally and
what experimental techniques were used. It should contain enough information to enable
the reader to understand what was done, and how.
5. Results and discussions
This section should contain the most important, consists a brief summary of the main
results along with declarations and explanations of any important findings. Authors
should consider how to present their data. There should be sufficient information for the
reader to understand the obtained results, but they must be presented without details. In
the results, avoid hanging comparisons.
6. Conclusions
The conclusions have to be based on the facts in evidence and should be limited to
minimal speculation about the significance of the work.
7. Keywords
Consist of up to 5 keywords alphabetically.

REGISTRATION AND PAYMENT

1. Abstract submission of Research Competition IMO 2021 is free of charge.


2. Participants of IMO 2021 should fill the online form correctly and register themselves
on https://pendaftaran.imounsri2021.com/. Please input a white image in the “Proof
of Payment” section.
3. Registration will be started on 28 June 2021 for the first wave registration and 26 July
2021 for the second wave registration. Due date for the first wave registration is 25 July
2021 (23.59 GMT+7) and for the second wave is 29 August 2021 (23.59 GMT+7).
4. First member that is registered should be the first author in the competition.

2. Finish your registration no later than 25 July 2021 (first wave registration) or 29 August
2021 (second registration) (23.59 WIB GMT+7).
3. Once submitted, the file can no longer be revised. Make sure you have sent the correct
file.

PRIZES
For international participants, the prize will be given in USD adjusted with nominal of rupiah
at the time of competition.
