he Zero Carbon Resorts Project funded by the European Unions SWITCH Asia Program held a TechnicalTraininginAlmeria,Spainhostedbypartner organization Plataforma Solar de Almeria (PSA) last November1to10,2011.
LaunchedaspartoftheadvancecoursefortheReplacePhase oftheproject,itgatheredengineersandarchitectsfromthe academe, private industry and government institutions to learnfromthetechniquesandexperienceofPSAinthefield ofsolarenergy. Participantsweretaughtvarioussolartechnologiesemployed byPSA.Theyareexpectedtoserveasresourcepersonsofthe project,echoingtheirlearningintheirrespectiveprofessions. Aworkshopwasalsoheldattheendofthetrainingforpar ticipants to identify, assess and recommend equipment that can be used to promote zero carbon resorts in the Philip pines.

Held last November 16 to 18, 2011 at the Tokyo Big Sight Conference and Exhibition Center, it highlighted available environmental/resource conservation techniques and prac tices, which are good for business and the environment, as wellasforemployees,communitiesandconsumers.Inaddi tion,theConferenceservedasavenueforaligningenviron mental technology needs with the international supply of bestavailabletechniquesandbestenvironmentalpractices. SSIST joined a forum carrying the theme "Visioning the Political and Constitutional Reforms for Laying the Ground for an Enduring Peace and Sustainable Development" conducted by Libertas and Demokraxxia lastDecember19attheAstoriaHotelPasig. Supported by the United Nations Development Programme and the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Proc ess,theeventwasdesignedtobeavenuefordeliberatingand understanding reform measures to address the roots of con flict,especiallyintermsofbroadeningthepublicparticipation.

SSISTandPTTUVRheinlandIndonesiaconductedamock A auditofpilotcompaniesonISO27001:2fortheSHielding IncomeandFinancialTransactions(SHIFT)IndonesiaPro jectlastNovember28to30,2011inJakartaandBandung. Designedtoensurethattheclientispreparedforthecertifica tion/externalauditing,theauditfollowedtheprinciplesofAde quacy,ComplianceandEffectivenessofthemanagementsystem in three major aspects: Awareness of People, Effectiveness of Implementationandadequacyofprocesses. After the mock audit, the Project Team produced a report in cludesfindings,recommendationsandinputsforthecorrective/ preventive actions to be taken. The activity marked the end of theproject's third(Implement) phase which involvesthe provi sionoftechnicalassistancePhase. ASSISTTechnicalConsultantRajaKumarconductedtheauditfor three out of seven participating companies all subsidiaries of PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia,. His report reveals that the pilot companiesshowednomajornonconformance,andstatedthat afterimplementingcorrectiveactions,theyarereadyforcertifi cation.

ASSISTTechnicalConsultantRaja Kumarconductedtheaudit. SHIFT Indonesia is a DEGfunded PPP that aims to qualify and ensure compliance of merchants and other service providers with international security standards, norms and procedures, especiallyPCIDSSandISO27001.

Economy Indonesia (LEAP) last November 7, 9 and 50001, towards reducing their GHG emissions and contributing totheswitchtowardsalowcarboneconomy. 11inSurabaya,JakartaandMedan,respectively.
LEAP Indonesia is a PPP initiative designed to help the busi nessesfromfivesectors(cement,ironandsteel,textile,power plantandpalmoil)1)reducetheirGreenHouseGasemissions, 2) become more energyefficient and 3) contribute to the na tionalplansofthegovernmenttowardslowcarboneconomy.In particular, the project supports the Indonesian Government's commitmenttoreduce26%ofthegreenhousegas(GHG)emis sionsby2020. TVNORDIndonesiaPresidentDirectorRobertNapitupuluwel comed the participants, while ASSIST PGM Director Sathappan Sathappan provided a project overview. For his part, Mr. GunardioftheMinistryofEnvironmentdiscussedthecountry's effortatreducingIndonesia'scarbonfootprint.

Network Conference on Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production held at the UN Gigiri Complex in Nairobi,KenyalastOctober17to18,2011.
The conference seeks to enhance the promotion of green manufacturing in developing and transition economies through the facilitation of NorthSouth and SouthSouth knowledgesharingandcooperation. It featured plenary sessions,panel discussions and parallel group sessions addressing key strategic and operational issues related to the theme Green manufacturing driving lowcarbon,resourceefficientandcleanindustrializationin developingandtransitioneconomies. AttendeesincludeNationalCleanerProductionCentersand RECPserviceprovidersfrommorethan 50developingand transitioneconomiesandotherassociatedknowledgecen terslocatedindevelopedcountries. ASSIST was invited because of its several SCP projects acrossAsiaincludingtheservicesrenderedtoUNEP/UNIDO for the development of PRESME tool kit and Responsible ProductionToolkit.
