Equatorial Climate

The document discusses the equatorial climate characterized by consistently high temperatures and abundant rainfall, supporting diverse ecosystems including tropical rainforests. It highlights factors affecting climate, notable regions with equatorial climates, and the rich biodiversity of flora and fauna found in these areas. Additionally, it touches on the economic benefits of exporting tropical fruits and the impact of tourism, while also addressing concerns about deforestation and species extinction rates.

Factors Affecting Climate
Climate is the regular weather pattern of a specific
area that has been recorded for around 30 years.
Factors affecting climate are:
Altitude
Prevailing winds
Latitude
Ocean currents
Relief
Distance from sea
Climatic condition
The summers are scorching and the winters are warm in an
equatorial environment. There is no seasonal change in the amount
of rain that falls throughout the year. With typical summer
temperatures of about 29'C, equatorial areas are constantly hot.

Approximately two-thirds of the world's tropical humid forests can be

considered as equatorial. The largest extensions of the equatorial forest are
found in the lowlands of the Amazon, part of Central America, the Congo
basin and the African coast of the Gulf of Guinea and the islands of
Southeast Asia of Indonesia.

Vegetation
Evergreen trees include mahogany, ebony, greenheart, cabinet woods, and
dyewoods.
Smaller palm trees.
Climbing plants like lianas or rattan.
Epiphytic and parasitic plants that live on other plants.
Tropical forests in the Amazon, known as Selvas, have multilayered
structures
Some trees such as kapok can reach more than 61 meters in height and, due to the
coating provided by the canopy, very little is the sunlight that reaches the lower
layers of the equatorial forest. Under the canopy we can find the underbrush where
the sunlight is also limited.
Rainforests in
equatorial climate
Equatorial rainforests are characterized by more than 2,000 mm of
annual rainfall. These forests have the most abundant diversity of the
planet, presenting 50% of the existing biodiversity. The equatorial
forests have a well-developed form of arboreal canopy vegetation and
are the winter home of a large number of birds. Rainforests contain
many different species of life ranging from reptiles, birds, insects,
mamals to many more. Some examples of animals are jaguars,
mosquitoes, iguanas, and more.
World Trade
Equatorial type climate places export a lot of regional exotic fruits and
vegetables across the globe. This leads to a lot of extra income this way.
There’s about 2,700 types of tropical fruits. It is also a benefit for the
farmers of the regions as a whole to be able to export and sell regional
specialties regularly. Some of the produce they export are: guava, lychee,
avocado, eggplant, dragon fruit and watermelon.
Tourism
One factor that brings tourists to equatorial
regions is the weather. The sunny, hot areas, pair
well with the beaches.
Some adventurers and hikers are also attracted to
these equitorial climate regions for their rich and
unique vegetation and various species of plants and
animals.
IMPORTANT FACTS
The tropical woods are home to about 70% of the plants that the US National
Cancer Institute has identified as potentially useful in the treatment of cancer.

Equatorial rainforests are home to a diverse range of fauna, such as frogs, snakes,
birds, insects, pumas, chameleons, turtles, and jaguars.
The extinction rate of species in the tropical forest is predicted to be between 5%
and 10% every ten years.

In developing nations, equatorial forests make up about 57% of the total.

Natural forests covering more than 56,000 square miles are lost annually.
The majority of the organisms in the equatorial jungle are insects.
There are just 2.6 million square kilometers of intact rainforest left because of
widespread deforestation.

Global logging businesses are destroying tropical forests on a regular basis.
