Demolition Checklist

1. Has a competent supervisor, experienced in demolition work, been appointed?
2. Are all onsite employees sufficiently trained and competent to complete their tasks and duties safely?
3. Is on-going hazard management being conducted onsite, and communicated through to employees and contractors
effectively?
4. Are all site personnel wearing the correct personal protective clothing and equipment for the work at all times, and
is the clothing/equipment being maintained effectively?
5. Is the site properly enclosed and are protective screens erected?
6. Have danger notices been erected? Is all access to the site by the public barred?
7. Are all ladders and other equipment in good order?
8. Are any floors in danger of being overloaded?
9. If a crane is in use:
(a) Are all non-essential personnel (except the crane operator and rigger) clear of
the danger area when the crane is being used?
(b) Are all crane windows properly protected, and does the crane require
a FOPS (falling object protective structure) canopy fitted?
10. Are operatives/ public/ pedestrians adequately protected?
11. Is sufficient watering taking place to keep down dust?
12. Are there sufficient fire extinguishers or other fire-fighting equipment onsite, and are they readily accessible?
13. Are good housekeeping practices being maintained, for example: are access pathways clear of unnecessary debris
and materials/ equipment?
14. Does all electrical equipment have current test certification and tagging to verify safety for use?
15. Do plant and equipment being used onsite have daily checks conducted by the operator(s) to ensure proper running
conditions and safety for use?
16. Do all onsite elevated work platforms and cranes have current certification to verify safety for use?
17. Are rescue equipment/ first aid kit available if necessary?
18. Is the area cleared of any hazardous chemicals?
19. Are utilities such as power, water, sewage, etc…decommissioned? If not is it safe to proceed? Are there enough
precautionary measures in place?
