(a) Creating a new score 1. Select Start a new score from the quick start menu, which you will see after you open Sibelius. 2. Choose the type of score you want to create (usually voice+keyboard), then click next. 3. Leave House Style unchanged and click next. 4. Select time signature and key signature. 5. Key in your score information and select finish. (b) Setting up your working platform 1. Ensure that your keypad and playback windows are toggled on. This will help you to work more efficiently. 2. To toggle it on, click on the image of a 3X3 grid and arrow head such that they are highlighted in blue.

(c) Keying in pitches 1. Press n on the typing keyboard. This will toggle the notation function. You can key in notes when the cursor turns into a coloured arrow and you see notes when you hover over the staff. 2. With the coloured arrow, use the mouse to click on the notes you want to enter. (d) Changing note values 1. Press n on the typing keyboard such that your cursor is a coloured arrow. 2. Click on the note value you want on the keypad on your screen. Shortcut: Keyboard keypad corresponds to keypad on screen.

3. To input rests, first click on the button with crotchet and quaver rest, or press 0 on the keypad, then select the length of the rest. Finally, click on the staff to insert your rest. (e) Creating chords 1. Use coloured cursor to place notes vertically. (f) Creating expression markings 1. Press ctrl-e, then right click on where you want to insert the terms. 2. Tempo: Go to Create-> text -> tempo. Cursor should turn into a coloured arrow, left click, and then right click. (g) Creating articulation 1. Staccato: Select staccato dot and wanted note value on note value keypad, then key in the note. 2. Slurs: Go to create-> lines, then select the slur/ phrase marking.

Time signature: t Key signature: k Delete notes: Backspace or del Delete bars: ctrl-backspace or ctrl-del Select many bars: shift, then click on the ends of the region you want to select.
