IELTS 13 – test 2

TASK 1
The given bar chart illustrates the rate of English and Welsh choosing an
accommodation in the period of 1918-2011.
In general, while the proportion renters of followed a downward trend, the
proportion of landlords experienced an upward tendency. However, the last
timepoint presented the opposite change for both groups.
First, it is clear to see that tenants decreased their percentage in most stages for
93 years. In 1918, approximately 77% of the population rented housing to live. This
statistic went down steadily until reaching its trough at 31% in 2001, except the
contemporary maintenance from 1939 to 1953 when it got about 68%. The 1971-
1981 period witnessed the most substantial decline in the number of renters by
10%. In 2011, this group increased 5% to remark an up-size-down chance.
Second, as the rest of the population, the estate owners posed the same fluctuation
with the reversible tendency when they tripled their percentage in 2011 from the
bottom in 1918. The disparity between two group was shortened from above 50% to
around a third at the end of the period.
TASK 2
There is a claim that humans have had an abundance of options since the invention
of industries, followed by the development of technology. I strongly believe this
opinion because people can not only choose the standard living conditions but also
opt for their own lifestyles.
Initially, citizens are free to choose a location to live, work, and study in most
countries; in some cases, they can migrate to another country if they are eligible.
This phenomenon has happened in almost all countries as a result of globalisation
and market economies. First, the government creates opportunities for talented
individuals, and entrepreneurs find a suitable place to develop themselves. One of
the pieces of evidence is the supportive taxation policy for businesses and
scholarships for students from all levels of the academic system. They also provide
various forms of assistance to far-from-home laborers, including condos for low-
income employees and unemployment insurance.
In addition, society becomes more open when it accepts multicultures, differences
in lifestyles, and even sexual orientation. The USA is one of the multicultural
countries where all cultures are respected and honored. Hollywood is a prime
example of this, as it has produced blockbusters featuring films about ethnicities
and cultures other than white America. Parents today believe that differences
between themselves and their children are inevitable. Therefore, rather than
imposing their own opinions on their children, parents often engage in discussions,
provide guidance, and allow their children to make their own choices. The LGBT+
community has gained recognition as an equal and normal group. In many nations,
the government has already adopted same-sex marriage to ensure the rights and
responsibilities for individuals belonging to this community.
To sum up, the modern age has been unlocking the freedom for everyone to follow
their ambitions. They are currently able to live and work for whatever they want, as
long as they do not do anything illegal. However, this reality is not prevalent, which
means that people in some countries have to fight to get it in order to transform this
world into something worthwhile to live in.

In contemporary society, the abundance of choices available to individuals is a topic
of considerable debate. While some argue that this plethora of options enriches our
lives, I contend that it can often lead to overwhelming confusion and dissatisfaction.
This essay will explore the extent to which I agree that we have too many choices
today.
Firstly, the variety of choices can be seen as a double-edged sword. On one hand,
having numerous options empowers consumers, allowing them to select products
and services that best meet their needs and preferences. For instance, in the realm
of technology, consumers can choose from a wide range of smartphones, each
offering unique features tailored to different lifestyles. However, this abundance can
also create a paradox of choice, where individuals find it increasingly difficult to
make decisions. Research has shown that when faced with too many options,
people often experience anxiety and regret, ultimately leading to dissatisfaction
with their choices.
Moreover, the overwhelming nature of excessive choices can detract from the
quality of our decision-making. With countless alternatives, individuals may find
themselves spending an inordinate amount of time deliberating over seemingly
trivial decisions, such as what to wear or what to eat. This indecision can not only
lead to mental fatigue but also diminish the enjoyment of life’s simple pleasures. In
contrast, having fewer options can streamline decision-making processes and
enhance overall satisfaction, as individuals are more likely to feel content with their
choices.
In conclusion, while the availability of numerous choices can be advantageous in
certain contexts, I firmly believe that the current abundance of options often leads
to confusion and dissatisfaction. Striking a balance between variety and simplicity is
crucial for enhancing our overall quality of life. Therefore, it is essential to reflect on
the implications of having too many choices and to seek ways to simplify our
decision-making processes.
