Definition of Multimedia: The combined use of several Medias such as movie, music, & lighting especially for the purpose of education or entertainment. A Multimedia system is characterized by computer control integrated production, manipulation, presentation, storage & communication of independent information which is encoded at least through a continuous (time dependent) & discrete (time independent) medium. Multimedia is defined as information representation & presentation mode, which use the computer resources in integrated form of text, image, & graphics and animation, sound, video into a single synchronize presentation. A multimedia system consists of 3 key elements. Multimedia hardware, Operating system & GUI, & Multimedia software development and authoring tools. Multimedia can be used for a verity of ways and for various purpose for creating presentation, training, education, digital, publication, simulation etc. As the information is presented in various formats multimedia enhance the user experience & make it easier and faster to grapes information. Introduction of ways and confession of ways and T.V. has changed the dimension of multimedia. Multimedia Contents: There are various ways by which the content of a multimedia may be expressed. Normally the contents are expressed in term of multimedia presentation objects or element such as text, image, graphic, audio, video.

Text: It is a basic representation of information in multimedia. The text may be represent in ASCII, Unicode, HTML, Post Script, PDR etc. Audio: Digital Audio or Speech is also an important content of multimedia in a application, the audio may be normal song, music, speech, structured audio (MIDI). Graphics: Although the word graphic and image are used interchangeably in computer science but it would be better to specify graphic. Where program generated drawing and manipulations are considered. Image: The image may be treated as captured of graphic. The image in multimedia may be still image or an animated sequence of frames. The representation of image may be in the form of clip art drawing. Animation: These are a sequence of image frame providing illusion of continuity. Video: An animation which gives synchronize with associated audio is called as video. The video may be movie, full motion video or structured video clip in different formats. Process of Multimedia Production: The Steps for Multimedia Application development may be describe as follows. 1. Concept 2. Story Board 3. Contents 4. Authoring 5. Prototyping

6. Testing 7. Delivery 1. Concept: A multimedia application development project starts with idea and a detailed brain storming session of ideas provides an inside into the presentation to be created. The Idea provides a reason which is ultimately converted into concept as the first step of multimedia development. Basic points which are to be considered are as follows. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Conceptualization of ideas. Purpose of presentation. Target of audience Application for design Architecture of multimedia presentation Inter activities and interface issues.

Conceptualization or concept is developed based on ideas. It involves the identification or relevant theme for targeted audience for multimedia title basic tasks which are perform during conceptualization of goal setting objective defining goal and objective in the development of multimedia and overall architecture of multimedia presentation. Active matrix is a set of interrelated task that are used for implement the goal and objective. 2.STORY BOARD: Story Board in multimedia application defines the layout of action, element, and objects along with their links to model the users requirement and behavior . Story Board also helps the multimedia programmer or developer as roadmap during development process.

Once Story Board is specifies next step is related to main power planning and resource allocation. Various experts and technical specialist are required for contain development and integration. Management of expertise as per the requirement of specification is a prime factor for successful multimedia development. Hence a standard multimedia production team consists of the following. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. Production Manager Content Specialist Script Writer Text Editor Multimedia Architecture Programming and Authoring Specialist Graphical Specialist Audio Specialist Video Specialist

Story Board has in describing about the linking of information contained by the following accessories categories of navigation. 1. Sequential Navigation 2. Topical Navigation 3. Explorating Navigation 3.Contents: Next step in these sequence are related to contained development and authoring. Content development is related to the creation of image, texts, audio & video in various formats according to the specification. There are two types of contents in multimedia application. 1. Static Contents 2. Dynamic Contents

Static Contents are those contents whose behavior does not change with time or event during execution of multimedia such as any static image or text. Dynamic Contents are those contents whose behavior changes with event and time such as audio and video. Beside these we have program contents also various tools are used to develop the content of multimedia application. For example Still images may be developed by scanner camera, software etc. Similarly audio contents may be created with microphone. 4.Authoring: Content development in multimedia project is followed by authoring. Authoring in multimedia application development is integration scripting and organization with the help of preprogramming element. There are various authoring software available today. Which vary in their organization and learning style. These are fault as authoring system paradigm or metaphor, some important authoring metaphor is as follows. 1. Scripting: These authoring metaphors are special language to attach event with interface examples are Open script or Lingo script. 2. Slide Show: Normally a line or presentation in form of slide for example Power point. 3. Hierarchical Metaphor: In this approach the elements and links are organized in form of free structure to provide navigation particularly the metaphor is implemented in form of movie, driving interface.

5. Prototyping: Prototyping is the next step in development process which helps in integration and multimedia titles. There are various types of prototype use in multimedia development. Prototype in multimedia recognizes the reality of the functioning of application. As discussed earlier understanding of requirement of user is an essential factor for development of multimedia title. Prototyping helps in chatting about the degree of implementation of users requirement in the project. 6. Testing: Testing and multimedia title is essential so that it could be delivered without bugs. It basically delegates the design goals, narration, interface, navigation. External navigation consists of alpha testing, focus group testing, beta testing. (a) Alpha Testing: Alpha Testing is a general overview of project is taking on the basis of feedback of alpha testing focus group testing is executed. It consists of targeting evaluate users requirement and behavior modeling. Beta Testing: Beta test check about all functionality of in term of time. It includes functionality testing, Install testing, stress testing, load testing

7.Delivery: Once testing are completed, complete revision of project is required to develop the delivery method and documentation. There are basically two methods for distribution of multimedia application Internet, CD-ROM. Hardware and Software Requirement for Development of Multimedia Computer: A typically multimedia computer usually include devices like CD-ROM Player, sound card such as sound blaster, Master Blaster and sometimes
