ANALYSIS OF CONTINUOUS BEAMS

Notes
1. Beams are analyzed by Moment Distribution Method.
Intermediate supports are assumed to be knife edged.
2. Maximum 5 spans are allowed.
3. Cells with yellow fill are for data input.
4. Data may be entered in any set of consistent units.

Steps for use

1. Enter total no. of spans and end support conditions.

2. Enter width, depth and span for each beam. Also enter the no. of divisions of
each beam at which SF and BM are desired.
3. Enter desired % of release of support moments for redistribution.
4. Enter loading data on each beam: conc. loads, conc. moments and distributed
loads and the locations of applications.
5. The following are displayed for each beam
 Distance of each specified section from left end of beam
 Values of SF at the section
 Reaction at each support
 Values of BM at the section (after redistribution, if specified). -ve (hogging) B
is displayed above the beam reference line and +ve (sagging) BM is displaye
below the beam reference line.
6. Equilibrium check is displayed at the bottom providing a check whether the sum
of vertical reactions is equal to the sum of vertical loads.
