ESCAPE NYC
In a bustling city, there was a man named Junior. Junior was a tourist from Colombia, and he had just arrived in
New York City. He didn't speak English very well, but he was excited to explore the city and have a memorable
trip.
As Junior wandered through the city, taking in the sights and sounds, he found himself in the wrong place at the
wrong time. Suddenly, the police arrived, and they accused him of robbing a bank. Junior was shocked because
he knew he hadn't done anything wrong. He tried to explain, "I am not the thief," but they didn't understand him.
Fearing arrest, Junior had to find a way to stay hidden from the authorities. He needed help to clear his name.
He thought of seeking assistance from the people he met along the way.
First, he met Alex, a friendly local who worked as a tour guide. She introduced herself and asked, "How can I
help you?" Junior explained his situation using simple sentences with the verb "to be." Alex was kind and offered
to assist him in any way she could.
Next, Junior needed to avoid the police, so he asked Alex, "Are they looking for me?" She explained that they
were, and together they devised a plan to keep him safe.
To support himself during this challenging time, Junior needed a job. He found work in a small shop, where he
interacted with customers every day, using the present simple tense to describe what he does and to ask about
their daily routines. He also learned time prepositions to help schedule his work hours.
While working, Junior realized he needed new clothes to blend in better. He learned how to use demonstratives
like "this" and "that" when buying clothes and asked, "How much is this shirt?" He compared clothes to find the
best deals, saying, "This shirt is more expensive than that one."
In his free time, Junior discovered he had a lot in common with his coworker, Emily. They discussed their
entertainment likes and dislikes using the present simple tense and object pronouns. Emily invited Alex to watch
movies, saying, "Would you like to see a comedy or an action film?"
Alex also talked about his family, using the present continuous to describe what they were doing back home. He
shared family differences, saying, "Most of my family members work, but my little brother is still in school."
To practice frequency, Junior asked Emily, "How often do you go to the movies?" They discussed their favorite
films and skills. Emily told him about her exercise routine, saying, "I can run very fast, and I've been doing it for a
long time."
During a break at work, Alex mentioned his past vacations and past events, using the past simple tense. He
shared how he visited cities, used recommendations and possibilities, and asked, "Can you recommend any
places to visit in New York City?"
One day, Junior didn't feel well, and he needed health recommendations. Emily advised him to rest and offered
some home remedies.
While dining in a restaurant, Junior ordered food, using "will have" and "would like" to express his preferences.
He compared the dishes, saying, "I'd like the chicken, but my friend will have the fish."
As he explored the city, Junior compared places, people, and things using comparative and superlative forms.
He described cities using adverbs before adjectives and conjunctions. He also asked, "How cold is it in winter?"
Thinking about the future, Junior discussed his future plans with Emily. He mentioned leaving messages, making
statements, and requests. He talked about his life changes, using past simple, present perfect, and present
simple, and shared, "I hope to become more fluent in English in the future."
