दोषोऩक्रमणीयमध्यायम ् (दोष उऩक्रमणीयं अध्यायम ्)


Chapter on treatment of doshas

 उऩक्रमणम ् means चिकित्सा/औषधम ् (treatment procedures/ therapeutic


procedures)

 दोष उऩक्रमणम ् means चिकित्सा/औषधम ् (treatment procedures or


therapeutic procedures) of vitiated doshas (vikruta doshas विकृतदोषा:)

 It includes
 Prithak dosha upakrama ऩथ ृ क् दोष उऩक्रम: (treatment of
vitiation of each doshas/individual doshas) - Vatadosha
upakrama, Pittadosha upakrama, Kaphadosha upakrama

 Samsarga dosha upakrama संसगग दोष उऩक्रम: (treatment of


vitiation of any two doshas) - Vatapittadosha upakrama,
Vatakaphadosha upakrama, Kaphapittadosha upakrama

 Sannipata dosha upakrama सन्ननऩात दोष उऩक्रम: (treatment


of vitiation three doshas) - Vatapittakaphadosha upakrama)

1. VATA DOSHOPAKRAMA (TREATMENT OF VITIATED VATA DOSHA)

वातस्योऩक्रम: स्नेह: स्वेद: संशोधनं मद


ृ ु ।
स्वाद्वम्ऱऱवणोष्णानन भोज्यान्यभ्यङ्गमदद नम ् ॥
वेष्टनं त्रासनं सेिो मद्यं ऩैष्ष्टिगौडििम ् ।
ष्स्नग्धोष्णा वस्तयो वष्स्तननयम: सख
ु शीऱता ॥
दीऩनै: ऩािनै: ससद्धा: स्नेहाश्िानेियोनय: ।
ववशेषान्मेद्यवऩसशतरसतैऱानुवासनम ् ॥

वातस्य उऩक्रम: स्नेह: स्वेद: संशोधनं मद


ृ ु ।
स्वाद ु अम्ऱ ऱवण उष्णानन भोज्यानन अभ्यङ्ग मदद नम ् ॥
वेष्टनं त्रासनं सेि: मद्यं ऩैष्ष्टि गौडििम ् ।
ष्स्नग्ध उष्णा वस्तय: वष्स्तननयम: सुखशीऱता ॥
दीऩनै: ऩािनै: ससद्धा: स्नेहा: ि अनेि योनय: ।
ववशेषात ् मेद्य वऩसशतरस तैऱ अ नुवासनम ् ॥

ANVAYA AND MEANING

स्नेह: स्वेद: संशोधनं मद


ृ ु ।
स्नेह: - use of snehas / unguents (oleation – both external & internal)
स्वेद: - sudation / fomentation
मद
ृ ु संशोधनं - elimination therapy (mild purification therapies)

स्वाद्वम्ऱऱवणोष्णानन भोज्यानयभ्यङ्गमदग नम ् ॥
स्वाद ु अम्ऱ ऱवण उष्णानन भोज्यानन – taking food which is madhura (sweet),
amla (sour), lavana (salty), and ushna (hot)
अभ्यङ्ग – oil embrocation/ oil application
मदद नम ् - massage

वेष्टनं त्रासनं सेको मद्यं ऩैन्ष्टकगौडिकम ् ।


वेष्टनं - binding/bandaging
त्रासनं - shaking/startling/frightening
सेि: - irrigation/pouring of medicinal decoctions
ऩैष्ष्टि गौडििम ् मद्यं – taking beverages such as paishtika (prepared from
flour of grains such as rice and goudika (prepared from
jaggery)

न्स्नग्धोष्णा वस्तयो वन्स्तननयम: सुखशीऱता ॥


ष्स्नग्ध उष्णा: वस्तय: - administration of vasti (enema) which is snigdha
(unctuous) and ushna (warm)
वष्स्तननयम: - habitual use of enema in its formal order
सुखशीऱता - recreations without sex/comfortable activities

दीऩनै: ऩाचनै: ससद्धा: स्नेहा: च अनेक योनय: ।


दीऩनै: ऩािनै: ससद्धा: अनेि योनय: स्नेहा: ि – sneha dravyas (unguents,
lipids) of various origin prepared with drugs which are
dipana (carminative) and pachana (digestive)
वातस्य उऩक्रम: - comprises the various therapeutic procedures of Vata.

ववशेषानमेद्यवऩसशतरसतैऱानुवासनम ् ॥
ववशेषात ् - Especially its specific management comprise,
मेद्य वऩसशतरस – intake of meat and meat soup which is medya (nutritive),
तैऱ - use of taila (sesame oil), and
अनव
ु ासनम ् - administration of anuvasana (oil enema)
