Experiment No. 5
I. INTRODUCTION
In response to the global issue of population explosion accompanied by poverty and
hunger, different countries have launched family planning programs to regulate population
growth. Using fertility awareness methods, women can be better guided and properly educated
to know more about their menstrual and ovarian cycles. These methods help married couples
determine the most fertile time for the female partner to conceive. They also help maintain the
health of the mother by allowing proper spacing between pregnancies for their children's ideal
growth and development. One of the natural processes of birth control, called the calendar
method, estimates a woman's likelihood to conceive based on her menstrual cycle. It takes into
account the woman's fertile period-the days when fertilization, and thus pregnancy, is most likely
possible.
II. OBJECTIVES
Determine the fertile and infertile days of a woman using the calendar method
Track the ovulation and menstrual cycles of a woman
III. MATERIALS
coloring materials (red, orange, blue, green)
IV. PROCEDURE
A. Reflection of Light
1. Review about the menstrual and ovarian cycles discussed in your textbook.
2. Study the following scenario.
In a 28-day regular cycle, a woman has a menstrual period of about five days.
For the month of October, her last menstrual day fell on the 22 nd day of
October
3. Plot the five-day menstrual dates in the calendar provided in the answer sheet. Color the
boxes in the calendar with the red marker.
4. Identify the fertile days of the woman. Use the orange marker to mark these fertile days
in the calendar.
5. Determine and color with blue the estimated ovulation days of the woman.
6. Mark the infertile days in the calendar using the green marker.
7. Estimate the woman's menstrual days for November. Color them red.
8. Answer the hypothetical questions in the answer sheet.

Based on the given scenario on the menstrual period of the woman, answer the question
Choose from the following choices:
a. Fertilization may occur because sperm can stay alive in the vagina for two to three days
fertilize an egg that can be released from the ovary too early.
b. No pregnancy will occur because the ovum is not yet released from the ovary.
c. No pregnancy will occur because the ovum has already passed its life cycle.
d. Shedding of the uterine lining or menstrual bleeding will occur.
What do you think might occur if a sexual encounter happens on:
