Congruent transformations: 1d Point reflection

1.1 The drawing below shows a device that can draw amazing figures. It is made of four interconnected
“arms” which can move points M1, A, M2 and Z. Pencils have been attached at the ends of the “long
arms”. M1 and M2 are the middle points of the “long arms”. The “long arms” are twice as long as the
“short arms”. The device is fixed to the drawing paper at point Z.
What image is created on the left if you trace the original figure on the right using a pencil?

numbered. At the end of a set, the teams cross over
to the other side of the court with point symmetry
through the court’s central point.

3.1 Was the reflection correct in each case? Analyze the three exercises with the protactor.
Explain your answers.

3.2 You can use a computer to investigate the relation between point reflection and the angle of rotation.

5.1 Create a figure on the geoboard. Then ask a classmate to stretch an elastic band of a different color
to form the figure reflected at the central point of the geoboard. Then draw the positions of the
elastic bands. Use different colors for the original and the reflection.

5.2 Copy figures, images or words twice in each case. Choose a reflection point and arrange both
copies with point symmetry.
