Transformations - Axial Reflection - Workbook

The document focuses on axial reflection transformations, guiding students through various exercises involving the reflection of letters, figures, and shapes. It includes activities such as drawing reflections, analyzing symmetry, and using tools like compasses and geodreieck for accuracy. The exercises encourage observation, creativity in word formation, and understanding of geometric properties related to reflection.

Congruent transformations: 1c Axial reflection

1.1 The word BAUM is reflected in three different ways. Work with a mirror.
- Draw the position of the axis of reflection for each word, so that the word BAUM appears in the
mirror.
- What do you notice? Write down your observations.

1.2 Write the words reflected in the axis of reflection s.

1.3 Write in large capital letters the words reflected vertically or horizontally.
Then ask your classmate sitting next to you to decipher the corresponding words.

1.4 The capital letters of the alphabet are reflected in a vertical axis.
- Note down those letters in which the original image and the reflection are identical.
What does each of these letters have in common?
- Create actual words in which the reflection also shows an actual word.
- Create invented words which do not change in their reflection. Describe what these words have
in common.

2 –

3.1 Are these reflections all correct here? Analyze the three exercises with compasses and a geodreieck.

3.2 You can use a computer to see how you can reflect a figure on an axis.

4.1 Reflect the apexes of the two figures only with the compasses.
Use the geodreieck to check the accuracy of the result.

5.1 Mark on the geoboard a proper axis of reflection and a figure. Then ask a classmate to stretch an
elastic band of a different color to create the reflected figure. Then draw the position of the various
elastic bands. Use different colors for the original, the reflection and the axis of reflection.

be generated through one or several reflections.
