NATURALIST

intelligence

Part 1: Research and Planning

Definition of Naturalistic Intelligence
Naturalistic intelligence is the ability to observe, understand, and classify things found in
nature, like animals, plants, rocks, and weather patterns. People with strong naturalistic
intelligence enjoy being outdoors and often notice details in nature that others might miss.
They are curious about how living things work and enjoy learning about the environment.
They may enjoy taking care of plants or animals, collecting natural items, or exploring
forests, parks, or gardens. This intelligence helps people understand how living things are
connected and how nature changes over time. It is common in scientists like biologists,
gardeners, veterinarians, and environmentalists. In children aged 8 to 10, naturalistic
intelligence may show up when they enjoy nature walks, ask questions about animals, or
sort things like leaves or rocks. Encouraging this intelligence can help kids develop a love
and respect for the natural world.
Target age group: Children aged 8 to 10 years

Part 2: Activity Creation

Materials Needed
o A piece of cardboard
o Adhesive tape
o Scissors

o Instructions (step-by-step)

o First: Draw a frame on the piece of cardboard and draw a tree trunk in the center.
o Second: Cut out the center and leave the outline of the trunk.
o Third: Place tape from one end to the other until the entire frame is covered.
o Fourth: Everyone must go outside to find different types of leaves and stick them
on the tape until they form a tree.
o Estimated Time: This activity will take us 20 minutes.

o Expected Outcomes (skills or understandings students should gain)

What we hope for from the results is that each student awakens their curiosity and
creativity to use what nature offers us. They also learn that there are diverse shapes,
colors, and sizes of leaves and that it is fun to explore and observe our surroundings.
