WINDER-BARROW COMMUNITY THEATRE recently presented a check to


the Winder-Barrow Coalition for Adult and Continuing Education from the sale of tickets to their last production of A Bad Year for Tomatoes. A portion of each shows profit is shared throughout the community with other nonprofit groups as a part of the WBCT Community Service Program. The Coalition for Adult and Continuing Education has dedicated itself to raising the educational level of Barrow Countys citizens since 1993. In less than 20 years more than 10,000 adult learners have been served through their programs. Their programs now support twelve GED classes and seven English as a Second Language classes in Winder, Auburn, and Statham.

DOC HOLIDAY SHOW TO BENEFIT PIEDMONT CASA


Local comedy hypnotist Doc Holiday will headline the show bringing fun and laughter to the Jefferson Civic Center in Jefferson, GA on Saturday March 24th. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. and benefits the Piedmont CASA organization serving foster children in Jackson, Barrow and Banks Counties. Doc Holiday has created a fast-paced modern comedy hypnosis show that is fun and appropriate for all ages. Holiday will be preceded by an opening act by Dr. Tom, a comedy mime. All ticket sales proceeds go directly to Piedmont CASA to help recruit, train and supervise volunteers who advocate for foster children. Volunteers provide critical information to Judges overseeing these cases and speak for foster children in their foster homes, at school, and in all areas of their lives. SEEKING ACCREDITATION: KIDZ ACADEMY is embarking on a


quality improvement program to receive accreditation from NAEYC. To earn NAEYC Accreditation, Kidz Academy will go through an extensive self-study process, measuring the program and its services against the ten NAEYC Early Childhood Program Standards and more than 400 related Accreditation Criteria. An on-site visit by NAEYC Assessors ensures that the program meets each of the ten program standards.

Campus of Lanier Technical College for being one of 37 adult learners in the state who were recognized by The Technical College System of Georgias Office of Adult Education for its EAGLE Award. An acronym for Exceptional Adult Georgian in Literacy Education. The award honors adult learners for their outstanding participation and exceptional achievement in their local adult education programs. The EAGLE winners were nominated from among the more than 90,000 adult learners in Georgia.

NEW CELL TOWERS:


As part of its continuing network investment to support growing demand for mobile devices and services, AT&T has announced the activation of three new cell sites in Barrow County and Banks County. The Barrow County sites are located north of downtown Winder on Highway 11 and in Bethlehem near Highway 81, while the Banks County site is along Highway 441 between Homer and Baldwin. All three sites are expected to enhance network coverage for area residents and businesses. 12 CHAMBERING March/April 2012
