SLO from Curriculum: [SLO:S-04-A-04] Classify the plants into two major
groups (flowering, and non-flowering), and give examples of each group.

Objectives: By the end of this lesson the students will be able to:
 Define different types of plants (herbs, shrubs, trees, creepers, and
climbers).
 Identify plants based on their characteristics.
 Classify given plants into the correct category.

Material Required: Plant samples, worksheets, board, markers, laptop

Introductory activity: Thinking caps-


Students will be given a scenario to imagine themselves in a garden and observe
different types of plants.

Developmental activity:
Introduction to Classification: Explain that scientists classify plants based
on similarities and differences to make study easier.
Explain that plants are classified based on size, stem, and growth habits.
Experiential Learning- Students will visit the school garden to observe the
characteristics of different types of plants.
 Herbs: Small, soft, green stems (e.g., Mint, Coriander, Spinach).
 Shrubs: Medium-sized, woody stems, bushy appearance (e.g., Rose,
Hibiscus).
 Trees: Tall, thick, and strong woody trunks (e.g., Mango, Neem, Banyan).
 Creepers: Weak stems, grow along the ground (e.g., Pumpkin,
Watermelon).
 Climbers: Weak stems, need support to grow upwards (e.g., Pea plant,
Grapevine).

Practice Activity: Challenge Box- Students will be provided with four


practice activities.
1- Plant chart- Complete the chart based on the given characteristics.
2- Fill in the blanks
3- Match it up
4- Observe the pictures and identify different types of plants.
Knowledge Check:
Quick Quiz- A short quiz will be conducted to check the based on the lesson.
Home Assignment:
Students will create a Plant Classification Chart using cutouts or drawings of
plants, categorizing them based on their characteristics.
