Special Issue on Local Binary Patterns (LBP)-based Image and Video Analysis

FOR PAPERS

The Local Binary Pattern (LBP) operator is a simple yet a powerful gray-scale invariant texture primitive, derived from a general definition of texture in a local neighborhood. Due to its discriminative power and computational simplicity, the LBP operator has become a highly popular approach in various computer vision applications, including visual inspection, image retrieval, remote sensing, biomedical image analysis, biometrics, motion analysis, environment modeling, and outdoor scene analysis, and so forth. Especially the use of LBP in biomedical applications and biometric recognition systems has grown rapidly in recent years. LBP has been highly successful in numerous applications around the world and has inspired plenty of new research on related methods. Since the introduction of the basic LBP operator, several variants have been proposed to improve the discriminative power and robustness of the operator. This special issue of EURASIP Journal on Image and Video Processing (JVIP) aims to spotlight the most recent achievements on the use of LBP and its variants in the field of image and video Analysis. We invite authors to contribute with original articles that will stimulate the research community on the use of LBP and its variants in image and video analysis and recognition. Besides traditional applications, we are particularly interested in articles describing modern fields of texture analysis such as 3D range data analysis, dynamic texture analysis, image and video analysis in unconstrained environments, video synthesis, Object tracking and recognition etc. For this special issue, high-quality submissions are sought. Potential topics include, but are not limited to: 7 Face analysis and biometrics 7 New variants of local binary patterns 7 Image and video analysis and recognition using local binary patterns 7 Comparative analysis of different local binary patterns variants 7 New applications area of local binary patterns 7 Implementations of local binary patterns in embedded vision systems and smarts cameras 7 Biomedical image analysis using local binary patterns 7 Feature selection and learning methods for local binary patterns 7 etc.
