CHAPTER 1: EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Community programs can expand the opportunities for youth to

acquire personal and social assets and to experience the broad range of features of positive
developmental settings . The activities I performed in the community service are Creating social
awareness on health consciousness and maintaining the surroundings. The activities are of great
significance as they effected the surrounding a lot , it developed a mind set of “cleaning our
surrounding, taking preliminary action in garbage management in surrounding environment ” in
the
minds of the people who acknowledged my work .

The first task I performed was creating awareness in people. In day to

day use the local dustbin areas get dirty because of some animals and the people using it. The
major problem of today's population is that they have become mean and self-centered, I noticed
this problem when I noticed the mess, we have created in our surrounding . The dustbins are
dirty the street drainages has more plastic wrappers than drainage water. As I started observing
the area the people starting noticing me asked why am I wasting my time on observing the
drainage, they asked me put my efforts elsewhere but after a short conversation they got the
motive of my efforts. They appreciated me as well as they knew the importance of keeping
the surrounding clean .

The second activity I performed was creating health awareness to

those who are not aware of it. The local people suffer a lot of damage because of great amount of
plastic using people. Mostly the young kids uses and throws the plastic in the drainages. After
lot of efforts even the local management is not able to manage all the local drainages and areas.
So, I took a small step by at least informing the authorities regarding the situation there. I even
taught the locals to take care while using plastic rather throwing them so that they can to enjoy
its
beauty and benefits in future .

The third activity I did was giving awareness in schools and making
children inspire by my words. After the Covid19 pandemic the population has been self-
conscious and self-concentrated. Very less amount / percent of people is taking
care of the social issues.

9
CHAPTER 2: OVERVIEW OF THE COMMUNITY

The local community in which I and my team conducted survey is somewhat rural and the
people living in that area are not aware of health and maintainance issues due to which the
surrounding environment stated damaging . All economically and educationally are at lower
profile
due to which none of them are coming forward in social related issues such as maintaining
drainages and keeping surroundings clean . During Covid-19 many of the didn’t even looked at the
conditions.
Most of the people are not aware of the damage that is being caused because of the negligent
actions that are done by us. Now a days many NGO’s are trying to create the awareness among
people by forcing them to separate dry and wet wastes and also making the use the public toilets
properly.
What everyone must know is todays mistake make tomorrow miserable. So being a part of
community we should try our level best to utilize resources [Link] ever we cant change
everything in one day but such kind of actitivies can improve future lifestyle.
The students are not at all aware of the damage that is being caused by the lack of knowledge
regarding how to maintain habitat and protect out [Link] tried to motivate students as
well so as to make them the future responsible citizen of nation.
Lastly, the members of the community has to take a part in such social activities where people
engage themselves in a good and healthy [Link] has to be a change in the actions done
by people in the society.

disposing the waste..
In the Second week ,
• we went to another area and observed the conditions of the locality and most of them are
suffering from the various types of damages caused by the canal which lies backside of their
colony.
• We tried to create awareness regarding the way of disposing of plastic and other non used items
into the canal so as to make the canal clean cause of which lot of stinky and disease causing
virus will not get spread.
During the Third week,
• we went to school to make students aware of the advantages and disadvantages of maintaining
proper habitat.
• During this attempt we have explained the students about

CHAPTER 5: OUTCOMES DESCRIPTION

DETAILS OF THE SOCIO-ECONOMIC SURVEY OF THE VILLAGE/HABITATION.

Socio-economic status is an important determinant of health, whether a cause or
consequences, it is linked with other major determinants. Majority of the world’s population have their
health status determined by their level of socio economic developments like: per capita GNP,
Education, Nutrition, Employment, Housing, Political system etc.
The economic survey said that COVID-19 vaccination is not merely a health response but
is critical for opening up the economy, particularly contact-intensive services. The survey said, “As on
January 16, 2022, eligible population vaccinated in India with first dose was 93% and with second dose
69.8%” The economic survey noted how initiatives like Jal Jeevan Mission and Swachh Bharat
Abhiyan has benefited the society and said:- As of January 2, 2022, 5.5 crore households have been
provided with
tap water supply, six states/ UTs have achieved the covered status of 100% households with-tap-water.
Education of females is another factor influencing health of the family as a whole. Educational status or
literacy level relates with poverty, ignorance, ill health, malnutrition, high infant and child mortality
rates. Educated population can counteract the effect of poverty on health.
QUESTIONARY PREPARED FOR THE SURVEY:
1) What do you think is meaning of " health and hygiene"?

2) What are the surrounding conditions of your area?

3) What do you know about the habitat maintenance in surroundings?

4) Do you think there is enough public awareness about hygiene?

5) What should be done to improve the public health ?

6) What are the problems that you have personally identified in your area?

7) What might be the possible solution according to you opinion?

8) What can be the possible ways of effective implementation of sanitary works ?

23
PROBLEMS IDENTIFIED IN THE COMMUNITY

Issues and Problems faced by people in society. There are various issues and problems
which people generally face in the society in India. Some of the problems are mentioned and
described below:

1) Drainage:In Every community there is a major problem which is drainage.

It causes more diseases by not cleaning it well and it causes more mosquitoes
and leads to typhoid ,dengue,
etc....
2) Garbage: Garbage is also a main problem which makes also causes more
diseases and maintain the environment imbalance
3) Water: The water available from the ground is also getting polluted due to
the over usage of
water by the industries also the quality of drinking water degrading in this locality.
4) Roads: The roads got damaged and also dust getting increased on roads due
to which the houses are being directly effected by the dust. Also heavy vehicles
such as lorries are transporting goods through small roads which is creating
huge traffic.
5) Mosquitos:
As mentioned above, due to drainage and garbage more mosquitos and flies are disturbing the
health conditions of people. During monsoon season these are causing dangerous health disorders.
6) Wastage disposal: The waste materials are being disposed on the streets due
to which drainages
are being blocked and animals such as cows and dogs are eating plastic and are getting sick.
7) Mineral deficient food: The that is being provided to the poor areas is
somewhat less nutrient. The financial status of people is making them in
efficient in affording the necessary and sufficient
food.
8) Environmental sanitation: The environment sanitization has not been done
regularly which is also another major issue which is causing all the above
problems .
9) Lack of awareness: Before summing up all the problems in the society , the
major one is the lack of awareness regarding the health issues caused by
improper maintenance of the
surroundings.
24
SHORT-TERM AND LONG TERM ACTION PLAN FOR POSSIBLE
SOLUTIONS FOR THE PROBLEMS IDENTIFIED AND THAT COULD
BE RECOMMENDED TO THE CONCERNED AUTHORITIES FOR
IMPLEMENTATION.

SHORT TERM ACTION PLAN:

Daily cleaning surroundings: surroundings has to be cleaned regularly in order to avoid the
stagnation of drainages and causing pollution.
Managing household wastage: separating wet and dry wastage of household usages in order to make
the disposal easy and pollution free.
Reducing water wastage: using water in a limited by ensuring the ground level of the available
water and also using less amount of water for house hold so drinking water will be available.
Reducing consumption of junk food: Taking care while eating outside food especially in winter and
rainy season as diseases may spread even faster.
Using dustbins: The dustbins that are provided at the starting of the streets has to be utilized .
Taking regular health check-up: Health is most prior than any other thing. So taking regular health
check up at available practitioner is must.
Physical exercise: Those who can go for regular physical exercise should maintain physical health
so as to overcome immunity deficiency problems.
Mental health practices: Mental health is more important than physical health why because many
people with good immunity also died cause of fear of COVID. Hence, good health counselling is
always required.
LONG TERM ACTION PLAN:
In order to get the long-term solution for the health and hygiene related issues people have to get
aware of the policies and implementations that are done by government. Also Government officials
has to be aware of the health and habitat conditions of the people in poor areas. Roads and drainages
has to be cleaned by the municipal corporations regularly and necessary precautions has to be
taken.
The proper maintenance has to be implemented in evert street of every village. Only then long term
solution is possible

25
DESCRIPTION OF THE COMMUNITY AWARENESS PROGRAMME
CONDUCTED W.R.T THE PROBLEMS AND THEIR OUTCOMES.

We have explained the pros of maintaining good and proper health and also the cons
of not taking proper food and balanced diet. We also have explained the students, who are the future
generation of the society, about the schemes that government is providing for the people who cant
afford.
We also tried to create awareness on the schemes provided by the government.

Ayushman Bharat: This scheme came into existence because of recommendations made by the
National Health Policy. Ayushman Bharat Yojana is designed keeping in mind Universal Health
Coverage (UHC).
Aam Aadmi Bima Yojana: The Aam Aadmi Bima Yojana (AABY) is meant for people involved in
certain vocations such as Carpentry, Fishing, Handloom weaving, etc.
Dr YSR Aarogyasri Health Care Trust Andhra Pradesh State Government: The Andhra Pradesh
Government along with the Dr YSR Aarogyasri Trust, which works for health care, has come up
with
four beneficial welfare schemes. This scheme is dedicated to the welfare of the poor.
Also we have explained the students about the use of physical and mental health &
motivated them to keep their surroundings clean and educate their parents about the problem. Also
we have explained the need of their role in the future society in every aspect ,not just only in
surrounding maintainance but also in their higher education.
We explained them about the factors effecting the health of the society and motivated
them to reduce pollution which is becoming one of the major problem causing health disorders
today. In order to change something we have to know something and so we made them realize the
usages and importance of the mental health , oral health and also the physical fitness required in
order to
motivate their future generation.
We made them look in to the other side of society where not every one but some are
not making use of resources of earth properly and advised not to do so.

26
REPORT OF THE MINI-PROJECT WORK DONE IN
THE RELATED SUBJECT W.R.T THE
HABITATION/VILLAGE.
HEALTH, HYGIENE AND HABITAT MAINTAINENCE
INTRODUCTION:
Maintaining a good personal, food and environmental hygiene practices are important
preventive measures against infectious diseases. The main foci of the present survey are therefore
public knowledge, attitudes, awareness and practices on personal, food and environmental hygiene
issues. Dental care can sometimes be a forgotten part of a healthy life style. While its importance is
often underestimated, the need for regular dental care cannot be overstated. Oral health has been
neglected for long in India. This survey was done to examine the effectiveness of the health
education campaigns by evaluating the impact of its work, especially on the different dimensions of
personal, food and environmental hygiene.

BACKGROUND:
Inadequate sanitation has direct effect on health of individual, family, communities
and nation as a whole. The healthcare sector is one of the most challenging and fastest growing
sectors in India. Revenues from the healthcare sector account for 5.2 per cent of the GDP, making it
the third largest growth segment in India.
Healthcare facilities, inclusive of public and private hospitals, the core sector, around
which the healthcare sector is centered, would continue to contribute over 70 per cent of the total
sector
The WHO defined health 1946 as "a state of complete physical, mental and social
well-being and not merely absence of disease or infirmity." Although this definition has been
subject to controversy , in particular as lacking operational value and because of the problem
created by use of the word "complete," it remains the most enduring. The maintenance and
promotion of health is achieved through different combination of physical, mental and social well
being together sometimes referred to as the "health triangle".The WHO supposes that health is not
just a state, but also "a resource for everyday life, not the objective of living. Health is a positive
concept emphasizing social and personal resources, as well as physical capacities.

OBJECTIVE:
The main objectives of the survey are:
1 To examine the general public’s knowledge, attitudes and practices of personal, food and
environmental hygiene.
2 To identify factors influencing the adoption of good hygiene practices.
27
3 iii)To
( examine the general public’s awareness of health education for personal, food and
environmental hygiene
4 To explore effective channels for disseminating health information to the public.

METHODS
:
The cross sectional study was done in the area of survey. A total of 80 households were randomly
selected from two wards of locality. The data were collected by interview method using interview
schedule. Data were entered in sheet and analyzed on awareness program.

FACTORS EFFECTING HEALTH:

-The nature of air you breathe, food you eat, environment you live.
-The nature of physical activity you are engaged in.
-The nature of diet, regimen and treatment that you adopt when you are sick and your genetic
predisposition
-The nature of mother's health in pregnancy, diet and medicaments by your mother during her
pregnancy.
WAYS TO HEALTH:

CHAPTER 6: RECOMMENDATIONS AND CONCLUSIONS OF THE
MINI PROJECT

CONCLUSION:
The knowledge regarding sanitation was high among community people but very poor
in practice. In order to overcome the practicing error we as a part of society has to take an initiative
and come forward to create awareness among the people in society.

As we being part of planet has to contribute in the development of the welfare of

nation and society. It would be even more better if such kind of activities were promoted by bigger
institutions as a part of their campaign and this can help all the remaining too.

From the above qualitative and quantitative analysis of the project

it could be concluded that there is a positive response in between people and children. The degree of
citizens decision making power is not the same over the different aspects of life and situation.
people have sole authority to decide about how to maintain the environment, but can rarely use their
opportunity. Furthermore people now a days have freedom to make changes in society with all the
medium they have.
“It is well known that health and hygiene are closely related. Personal hygiene is
essential for several reasons like personal well-being, social health, psychological health and simply
as a way of life. Keeping good hygiene, not only safeguards those around you from suffering
illnesses, but also helps to prevent the spread of infections, illnesses, and bad odors.” These are the
things that people have to know about health and hygiene. These are not the things which are
mandatory and has to be followed. If we follow these we can lead a happy and safe journey of life.
