EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The community service report shall have only a one-page executive summary. It
shall include a brief description of the Community and summary of all the
activities done by the student in CSP and five or more learning objectives and
outcomes.
Community Service Project:
Hosting a clean & Green program in a community
We planned our community service project in several different areas starting
from vizianagaram to vishakapatnam. Many areas in these places are found with
a lot of waste lying around, mostly around parks and apartments. Our community
service project aims towards cleaning these surroundings and bringing awareness
to people in the community as well the general masses about the situation of
cleanliness around these communities, importance of planting trees and the
struggles and daily life of an average cleaning workers and sweepers who keep
our surroundings clean.
Our Planting Trees Program aims to create a greener and more sustainable future for communities near and far.

Summary of Activities:
 Hosting cleaning program: Two cleaning programs
were conducted in three different communities.

 Hosting planting trees program: Our group planted trees across the surroundings we cleaned
and also around some places in living communities. As a part of our project we also visited some
urban areas of refreshment like parks and beaches to see the situation of how they’re
maintained.

 Contrasting landscapes: Took some pictures around our native places regarding the Barrenness
and Verdancy of those areas. Measures to overcome barreness.
Our objectives:
1. To promote environmental consciousness.
2. To enhance community wellbeing.
3. To bring long term sustainability.
4. To aware the masses about significance of planting trees.
5. Hygiene and cleanliness should be promoted compressively.
6. Raising the standard of living in urban and rural communities.
7. Encourage the use of environmentally appropriate sanitation.
8. To raise public awareness about health and hygiene concerns.
9. To concentrate on scientific waste management strategies for both solid and liquid
waste.
10.To have positive impact on social inclusion and gender equality.
REPORT
Week 1:
Cleaning Program : Building a Sustainable community together.
 Went to vasantha to conduct cleaning program.
 Maintaining care we used pair of gloves and disposal bags to collect garbage from a
public place where there is a lot of waste lying around without being cleaned.
 After cleaning the garbage, we dumped
them in a dustbin which was later colle-
-cted by the municipal authorities for
garbage disposal.
 Disposed the plastic wastage along with
the bags and gloves we used, into the
dustbin without leaving any left out in
the surroundings.
Week 2:

Community Clean Up Initiatives

 Divided the team into smaller groups and assigned specific areas to clean up.

 Hosted community wide clean-up events in different locations, involving volunteers and

residents.

 Encourage participation from local schools, business, and civic groups.

 Document and share the progress and impact of clean-up efforts.

Week 3:

Environmental Projects and Planting

 Organize tree-planting activities in parks, schools or other designated areas

 Establish a community garden or expand existing ones, involving volunteers
in planting and maintenance.
 Collaborated with local nurseries or organization to source saplings.
 Planted trees around living communities. People around the localities helped
us and asked about our project. We told them about our objective .
 Engage with local residents by distributing educational materials, sharing
tips for waste management, and encouraging their involvement maintaining
cleanliness.
Week 4:

Surveying Urban recreational area maintenance:

• As a part of the project we went some of the well known public recreational places to see and survey the state
of Cleanliness and plantations around those places.
• We first went to a park to see and learn how they’re maintained.
• We asked various workers about how they clean, their working hours
and wages.
• Most of these people work everyday from 9 to 5 and get paid monthly.
• They keep the park area clean so the visual appeal never disappears.
• Talked to the gardens and plantation maintenance workers who
plant different variety of trees every week and remove the unwanted vegetation.
• Discussed the cleanliness and vegetation maintenance around beach areas with administrator and workers.
These beach areas often tend to get affected by load of wastage dude to their immense popularity. Also it is
quite a keen and pleasant gesture to maintain proper clean benches and plants around these areas.
Week 5: Volunteer Training and Education

 Conduct training sessions for volunteers on waste management,

recycling, and Eco-friendly practices.
 Organize workshops or seminars on environmental issues and sustainable
living.
 Distribute educational materials to volunteers and community members

Week 6: Outreach and promotion

 Develop promotional materials, including flyers, posters, and social

media graphics.

 Launch a social media campaign to create awareness about the event.

 Reach out to local media outlets for coverage and promotion.
 Start recruiting volunteers and encourage community involvement
Week 7:

 The group visited some nurseries around local areas (Vizianagaram and
Visakhapatnam to know more about plant cultivation, maintenance and
Care.
 We also asked nursery workers about their prospectives and concerns
Regarding greenery in our communities.

 Later we took some plants and decided to plant

them in barren areas or our previously cleaned
places where there is less vegetation.

 We planted variety of tress, utilizing both nursery-

-grown saplings and Seed sourced from the fruits.
Week 8: Closing Ceremony and Future Plans

 Hosting a closing ceremony to celebrate the achievements and efforts

of volunteers and community members.
 Recognize and appreciate the contributions of individuals and organizations.

Continued community engagement.

Conclusion: Over the course of 8 weeks, our community serve project hosting
Clean & Green Program in achieving our goals and making a positive impact in
Our community. We were able to increase awareness and did our best to reflect
that Surroundings and Greenery among society. We are grateful for the
opportunity to serve our community and make difference in the health and well begin
of our community.
IMPORTANT TOPICS TO DISCUSS

1) What is the need of clean & Green community?

2) Consequences of disavowing Cleanliness?

3) Need of verdancy?

4)Sustainable waste Management:

5)Promoting Eco-friendly practices:

What is the need of Clean & Green community?

• A clean and green community reflects the life of community itself, its pleasant
and prosperous in the first place
• Prevents our children playing in the ground from getting affected with
infections and diseases
• Provides a sustainable habitat for animals to thrive
• Attracts people towards the community and inspires them to make their own
ones like that
• Reduces the air pollution, each breath we take will feel pure and light
• Promotes sustainable development by implementing eco-friendly infrastructure,
renewable energy sources, and efficient waste management systems
• Clean and green communities play a crucial role in mitigating climate change.
Consequences of disavowing
Cleanliness:
• Mostly importantly, if it’s a place, a community or even a town, it
doesn’t matter, if it avoids cleanliness it gives rise to an unsightly and
unkempt impression of that place. It tarnishes the visual appeal of that
particular place.
• Spreading of infections and diseases (especially among children and
senior citizens)
• Affects the vegetation of the area
• Soil quality will be affected due to the large amount garbage(non-
decomposable)
• Accumulation of waste in the area contributes to air pollution, adversely
affecting the overall air quality and creating an unpleasant environment
• Domestic animals suffer the most as they left with a environment where
they need to feed on polluted air, water and land.
Need of verdancy:
• “verdancy” refers to a green environment i.e., the one filled with vegetation
and plant life
• Maintains ecological balance by contributing to oxygen production, carbon
dioxide absorption, and the purification of the air we breathe.
• Verdant areas provide habitats for a wide array of plant and animal species,
supporting biodiversity and fostering a thriving ecosystem.
• Green environment offers spaces for relaxation, recreation, and physical
activity, reducing stress levels and enhancing mental well-being.
• Verdancy adds beauty and visual appeal to landscapes, transforming dull
environments into vibrant spaces.
• The presence of vegetation helps prevent soil erosion by holding the soil in
place with their root systems.
• Trees also play huge role in maintaining proper temperature and climatic
control.
Sustainable Waste Management:

Recycling:
• Encourage community members to separate recyclable materials such as paper,
plastic, glass, and metal.
• Raise awareness about the benefits of recycling, such as conserving natural
resources and reducing energy consumption.
• Collaborate with local recycling facilities or programs to establish convenient
drop-off points for recyclable items.
Waste Reduction:
• Encourage the adoption of practices like minimizing food waste through meal
planning and proper storage.
• Promote the use of reusable items like cloth bags, water bottles, and coffee cups
to reduce single-use plastics.
• Advocate for responsible packaging choices and support local businesses that
prioritize sustainable packaging alternatives.
Promoting Eco-friendly Practices:
Sustainable Transportation:

• Advocate for alternatives to single-occupancy vehicles, such as carpooling, public transportation,

walking, or cycling.
• Work with local authorities to improve public transportation infrastructure and accessibility.
• Organize community bike-sharing programs or carpool matching platforms to encourage shared
mobility.

Plastic Reduction:

• Raise awareness about the harmful impacts of single-use plastics on the environment and
wildlife.
• Encourage residents to switch to reusable alternatives like cloth bags, stainless steel straws, and
food containers.
• Engage local businesses to reduce or eliminate the use of plastic bags, straws, and packaging
through voluntary initiatives or policy changes.
Eco-friendly Products:
 Promote the use of eco-friendly and non-toxic cleaning products, personal care items, and household goods.

 Collaborate with local businesses to increase the availability of environmentally friendly products in the community.

 Organize workshops or demonstrations on DIY natural cleaning and personal care product recipes.
 What are the best ways to keep the earth clean?
 Why do I have to help the environment?
 Are there any specific areas or issues in the community that require more attention in
terms of cleanliness?
 Do you have any suggestions or ideas on how to encourage more community
involvement in keeping the area clean and green?
 What resources or tools would make your job as a sweeper easier and more effective?
 Is there anything else you would like the community to know or understand about your
role as a sweeper?
 How do you handle situations where people may not respect or appreciate your
efforts?
 Have you witnessed any positive changes in behavior or attitudes towards cleanliness
within the community over time?
Contrasting Landscapes:
In the previous slide, you saw two different landscapes. One showing the area with a lot of
vegetation and trees and others with cut and burnt trees. The differences between these two
landscapes:
• Environmental Impact:
The vegetation landscape contributes to a healthier environment by producing oxygen, absorbing
carbon dioxide, and regulating the water cycle through transpiration. In contrast, the barren
landscape may contribute to soil degradation, increased erosion, and limited ecological support.
• Colors and vibrancy:
The vegetation landscape is visually appealing and vibrant whereas the second landscape
appears dull and monotonous, lacking any vibrant colors or visual interest.
• Aesthetics and Refreshment:
The vegetation landscape offers a visually pleasing and calming environment. Conversely, the
barren landscape may evoke a sense of desolation or emptiness, lacking the aesthetic appeal and
recreation.
• Productivity and Resources:
The vegetation landscape offers various resources and benefits to humans, such as food
crops, medicinal plants, timber etc…whereas the barren landscape lacks these productive
resources, limiting its potential for sustenance and human utilization.
