 I was walking around in a Target store, when I saw a
Cashier hand this little boy some money back.

The boy couldn't have been more than

5 or 6 years old.

我在「 塔杰 」商店 閒
逛
時，看 到收 銀員將 一

錢退還 給小 男孩。

這男孩 不過 5 、 6 歲
。
The Cashier said, 'I'm sorry, but you don't have
enough money to buy this doll.'

收銀 員說 ：『抱 歉！ 你買這 娃娃 的錢不 够。 』

Then the little boy turned to

the old woman next to him:
''Granny, are you sure I don't
have enough money?'‘

小男孩轉 向他 旁邊的 老婦人 ：

「奶奶！ 妳也 認為我 的錢不 够嗎 ？」
The old lady replied:
''You know that you don't have enough
money to buy this doll, my dear.''

老婦人回 道：
「親愛的 ！你 知道買 這個 娃娃的 錢是不 够的 。」

Then she asked him to stay there

for just 5 minutes while she went
to look around. She left quickly.

她要 小男 孩呆在 那裡 5 分鐘 ，她 一下
就回 來。 她 迅速 離開了 。
 The little boy was still holding
the doll in his hand.

小男孩的 手仍 然握著 娃娃 。

Finally, I walked toward him and I asked

him who he wished to give this doll to.

最後 我向 他走去 ，問 他這個 娃娃 你想給 誰。

'It's the doll that my sister loved most
and wanted so much for Christmas.

『這是我 妹妹 的最愛 ，非常 想要 的聖誕 節娃 娃。

She was sure that Santa Claus would bring it to her.

她一 直認 為聖誕 老人 會帶 娃娃來 給她的 。」

I replied to him that maybe Santa Claus

would bring it to her after all, and not to worry.

我告 訴他 不用 擔心， 聖誕老 人最 後可能會帶 給她 的。

But he replied to me sadly. 'No, Santa Claus
can't bring it to her where she is now. I have
to give the doll to my mommy so that she can
give it to my sister when she goes there.‘

但他哀傷 地回 答我『 不！聖 誕老 人不可 能將 它帶到

她現在的 地方 給她。 我必須 將娃 娃交給 我媽 ，當她
去那裡的 時候 可以給 我妹妹 。』
His eyes were so sad while saying this.
'My Sister has gone to be with God. Daddy
says that Mommy is going to see God very
soon too, so I thought that she could take
the doll with her to give it to my sister.''

My heart nearly stopped.

The little boy looked up at me and said:
'I told daddy to tell mommy not to go yet.
I need her to wait until I come back from
the mall.‘

小男孩看 我說： 『我 叫爸爸 告訴 媽媽現 在不

要走，讓 她等我 從購 物中心 回來 。

Then he showed me a very nice photo of himself.

He was laughing. He then told me 'I want mommy
to take my picture with her so she won't forget me.'

然後他拿 出一張 他自 己非常 漂亮 的相片 給我 看。他 笑著

'I love my mommy and I wish she didn't
have to leave me, but daddy says that
she has to go to be with my little sister.'

Then he looked again at the doll

with sad eyes, very quietly.

然後他安 靜地 用哀傷 的眼睛 再看 著娃娃 。

I quickly reached for my wallet and said to the boy.
'Suppose we check again, just in case you do have
enough money for the doll!'‘

我趕 緊摸 著錢包 對小 男孩說 『我 們再檢 查一下 ，說 不定

您有 足够 的錢買 玩偶 ! 』

'OK' he said, 'I hope I do have enough.'

I added some of my money to his without
him seeing and we started to count it.
There was enough for the doll and even
some spare money.

『好呀！ 』他說 『我 希望有 足够 的錢』 。

沒讓他看 見，我 塞了 一些錢 到他 的錢包 中，
我們開始 數錢。 買娃 娃的錢 足够 了， 甚之
還有剩餘 呢。
 The little boy said: 'Thank you God for
giving me enough money!‘

小男 孩說 ：『謝 謝上 帝給了 我足 够的錢 ! 』

Then he looked at me and added, 'I asked

last night before I went to sleep for God to
make sure I had enough money to buy this
doll, so that mommy could give it to my
sister. He heard me!''

然而 他看 著我補 充說 『昨晚 睡前 ，我要 求上 帝

讓我 的錢 能足够 買這 個娃娃 ，因 此媽媽 能將 它
帶給 我妹 妹。祂 聽見 我了 ! 』
 'I also wanted to have enough money to buy
a white rose for my mommy, but I didn't dare
to ask God for too much. But He gave me
enough to buy the doll and a white rose.'‘

『我 也想 有足够 的錢 買一朵 白玫 瑰給我 媽媽 ，

但我 不敢 要求上 帝太 多。但 祂給 的錢足 够買
娃娃 和一 朵白玫 瑰了 。』

'My mommy loves white roses.‘

『我媽媽 喜歡白 玫瑰 』。
 A few minutes later, the
old lady returned and I l
eft with my basket.

幾分鐘後 ，老 婦人回 來了
。
我也就提 了購 物籃離 開了
。
I finished my shopping in a totally different state
of mind from when I started.

在和 最初 完全不 同的 心情下 ，我 完成了 購物 。

I couldn't get the little boy out of my mind.

小男 孩一 直無法 離開 我的心 境。
Then I remembered a local news paper article
two days ago, which mentioned a drunk man
in a truck, who hit a car occupied by
a young woman and a little girl.

我想起兩 天前 當地報 紙的 一篇
文章 ，提 及一位 醉酒 卡車
司機， 撞上了 一輛 載著
年輕少 婦和一 個小 女孩
的汽車 。
 The little girl died right away, and the mother
was left in a critical state. The family had to
decide whether to pull the plug on the life
-sustaining machine, because the young woman
would not be able to recover from the coma.

Two days after this encounter with the little boy,

I read in the news paper that the young woman
had passed away.

I couldn't stop myself as I bought
a bunch of white roses and I went
to the funeral home where the body
of the young woman was for people
to see and make last wishes before
her burial.

我不自主 的買了 一束 白玫瑰 ，來 到

喪家，年 輕少婦 的遺 體在她 埋葬 前
讓人瞻仰 與最後 許願 。

She was there, in her coffin, holding a beautiful white

rose in her hand with the photo of the little boy and
the doll placed over her chest.

她在那裡 ，裝 在棺木 中，在 她的 手中握 著一 朵白玫 瑰和 小

男孩的相 片， 娃娃則 放置在 她的 胸口。
I left the place, teary-eyed, feeling that my life
had been changed for ever.. The love that
the little boy had for his mother and his
sister isstill, to this day, hard to imagine.

我離 開了 這裡， 眼淚 奪眶而 出， 覺得我 的人 生

已經 永遠 改變了 。至 今，小 男孩 對他母 親和
妹妹 的愛 ，仍然 難以 想像。

And in a fraction of a second, a drunk driver

had taken all this away from him.
