It means making a positive difference, a
tangible impact, a specific contribution to any
situation .
This positive difference or impact can be in
the form of achieving a specific goal, creating
a product, creating 'human touch' in a
particular interaction, or enhancing one's own
capacity or the capacity of one's colleagues
and team-mates.

and achievement. Despite facing significant
obstacles as a woman in a male-dominated
field, she became an astronaut at NASA.

• Kalpana Chawla’s journey is a story of perseverance and inspiration.
Born in Karnal, Haryana, in 1962, she pursued her passion for
aerospace engineering despite societal norms. After earning her
degrees in India and the U.S., she joined NASA in 1988 as a research
scientist and became an astronaut in 1994. She made history as the
first Indian woman in space during her 1997 mission on Space Shuttle
Columbia. Tragically, she lost her life in the 2003 Columbia disaster. Her
legacy continues to inspire millions to dream big and reach for the stars

is a great example of creating value in the face
of obstacles.
oKiran Mazumdar-Shaw, a first-generation
entrepreneur, founded Biocon in 1978 with a
modest investment of ₹10,000. She aimed to
create a biotechnology company that would
provide high-quality, affordable healthcare
solutions.

• Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw’s journey is a testament to determination
and innovation. Born in Bangalore, she aspired to become a doctor
but pursued brewing due to financial constraints. Facing gender bias
in the brewing industry, she pivoted to biotechnology and founded
Biocon in 1978 from her garage. Starting with industrial enzymes,
Biocon evolved into a global biopharmaceutical leader, pioneering
affordable insulin and other therapeutics. Her accolades include
Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, and EY World Entrepreneur of the
Year 2020. Her story inspires millions to challenge norms and
achieve greatness through resilience and vision

Murlikant Petkar is India's first Paralympic gold
medalist. He won an individual gold medal in the
1972 Summer Paralympics, in Heidelberg,
Germany. He set a world record in the 50 m
freestyle swimming event, at 37.33 seconds. In
the same games he participated in javelin,
precision javelin throw and slalom.[contradictory]
He was a finalist in all three events. In 2018, he
was awarded with the Padma Shri.

Murlikant Rajaram Petkar’s life is a story of resilience and triumph. Born in
Maharashtra in 1944, he was a promising boxer in the Indian Army before
sustaining severe injuries during the 1965 Indo-Pak war, leaving him
paraplegic. Refusing to let his disability define him, he turned to sports and
won India’s first Paralympic gold medal at the 1972 Games in Heidelberg,
Germany, setting a world record in the 50m freestyle swimming. Despite
limited recognition for para-sports then, Petkar earned numerous
accolades, including the Padma Shri (2018) and Arjuna Award (2025),
inspiring generations with his unwavering determination.
