COREL DRAW

GRAPHICS: It is basically for organizing texts, shapes and pictures to form


a design.
GRAPHICS SOFTWARE: Is the use of computer machine and also
application that is capable for text, shapes and pictures organizing.
TYPES OF GRAPHICS.
There are 2 types of graphics, these are:
1. Paper Graphics 2. Electronic graphics
1. Paper graphics (Manual): It is the use of paper to carry out the
designing.
2. Electronic graphics: It is the use of computer machine with
application program called Corel Draw to carry out designing.

COREL DRAW
Definition: Corel draw is a window based graphical application software
that is used for organizing text and graphics electronically.

THE SCREEN OF COREL DRAW.


The screen of Corel draw consists of toolbars which aid the operation of the
program. These bars are:
1. TITLE BAR: This is the first top bar you see in this environment, it
displays the name of the application on use and the file you are working
with, this bar also contains the control buttons (minimize, maximize/restore
and close), which are used for sizing the application window.
2. MENU BAR: This bar contains the available menu in you Corel Draw.
A menu can be accessed by clicking on it or by pressing Alt key on the
keyboard plus the underline character in the menu bar.
3. STANDARD TOOL BAR: The bar below, the menu bar contains icons
that perform some of the operation in the menu bar.
4. TOOL BOX: This toolbox is usually located at the left side of the
Corel draw window for quick access, some of the tools fly out this can
be noted by a small black arrow at the button right corer of the tool.
5. PROPERTY BAR: This displays tools that are used with the
application; you can change what is displays to suite you needs.
6. DRAWING PAGE OR PRINTABLE AREA: This is a rectangle that
indicates with the application for all your designs. It is only the object that
appears on the drawing page that will be printed.
7. SCROOL BAR: These are used to view various part of the window.
8. COLOUR PALETTE: This contains colors that can be applied on
outline information or fill and object. It is locate at the right hand side of
the window.
9. STATUS BAR: This bar is located at the button of the screen,. It
displays information about on-going operations in the computer.
10. RULER BAR: It enable the user to carryout measurement.

USES OF COREL DRAW.
COREL DRAW CAN BE USE:
1. For Complex drawing
2. Fill color illustration
3. Designing of logos
4. Cover page (for new papers etc)
5. Cards (seasons, wedding etc)
6. Certificate etc.

GET STARTED WITH COREL DRAW


 Click start on the task bar.
 Point to all programs
 Click Corel draw (9,10,11,12 X3, X4 etc).
 Or select the icon on the desktop
 Press on key on the keyboard or
 Double click the Corel draw icon on the desktop if the short cut is
created on it.
HOW TO SET A PAGE
 To specific the page layout
 Click layout (on the menu bar)
 Select page set up
 Chose either portrait or landscape
HOW TO SELECT PAPER SIZE
 Click on layout
 Select page set up
 Select either A3, A4 etc. as your paper orientation
HOW TO DRAW
Once Corel draw is open, it display the welcome screen with the
following options:
 New graphics
 Open last edited
 Open graphics
 Template
 Corel tutor
 What’s new.
STARTING A NEW DRAWING
 Click on file menu
 Click new
Or
 Click the new graphic icon.
SAVING IN COREL DRAW
The command allows your drawing to be store in the computer
memory. When saving you must specify the file name, location to be
stored e.g. hard disk or floppy disk drives.
 click on file on the menu bar
 Click save as (it allows you to save your drawing for the first time)
 Form the save in look boxes chose my document, or any drive

 Type in the file name
 Click save.
HOW TO CLOSE A FILE
 Click on file menu
 Click close
 Or Click on the close button at the top left side of the drawing
window.
HOW TO OPEN AN EXISTING FILE
 Click file
 Click open
 Select my document or drive
 Select the file name
 Click open
Note: Corel Draw has different versions, 8,9.10.11,12,X3,X4 etc. a file
saves in a lower version cannot be opened in a higher version
VARIOUS TOOLS USED IN COREL DRAW.
1. PICK TOOL: This tool is used to select, resize rotate, skew and move
objects or text from one location to another.
2. SHAPE TOOL: This tool is used to rounding comers of object e.g.
rectangle and points of polygon or star or shaping of picture etc.
3. KNIFE TOOL: This tool is used in rounding corners of object e.g.
rectangle and points of polygon or star etc.
4. THE ERASER TOOL: This let you remove portion or parts of an
object completely. The eraser tool does not create new object, but
simply create separate sub paths whenever eraser tool is use on an object,
it automatically becomes a curve object.
5. THE FREE TRANSFORM TOOL: This tool is used to perform external
rotation; scale skew operation on an object, when you select the tool the
property bar displays four free transform tool nodes.
6. THE RECTANGLE TOOL: The rectangle tool let you draw
rectangle/square by dragging the mouse button.
7. THE ZOOM TOOL: The zoom tool is used in magnifying an object or
text zoom tool has to fly outs the zoom tool and the pan tool.
8. THE POLYGON TOOL: The polygon tool used to draw stars polygons.
The polygon tool has the following three fly-out; the polygon the graph and
spiral tool.
9. THE SPIRAL TOOL: The spiral tool let you draw spiral shapes there
are two types of spiral tools. These are logarithmic spiral symmetrical
spiral. In logarithmic spiral, the distance between each revolution increase
as the spiral progresses, while in symmetrical, the distance between each
revolution remain constant even as the spiral progresses,
10. GRAPH PAPER: Graph paper let you draw grids of rectangle that
appear in columns and rows.
11. THE INTERACDTIVE TOOLS FLYOUTS: the fly out of the interactive
tool include the following.
a. Interactive blend tool: It enables the user to blend or merge two
objects together.

b. Interactive envelope tool: This tool let you change the appearance
of a text
c. Interactive extrude tool: this allows you to give object three
dimensions look.
d. Interactive shadow tool: It allows you to create an illusion of two
dimension form to an object.
12. THE INTERACDTIVE DISTROTION TOOL: It is used to alter the
appearance of an object/text.
13. THE FREE TRANSFORM TOOL: It contains the following fly-out
a. The free hand tool: It lets you draw straight lines and curves.
b. The Bezier tool: Allows you to draw straight lines and curves by
forming nodes.
14. TEXT TOOL: The text tool let you type, edit and highlight your text.
15. THE INTERACTIVE FILL TRANSPARENCY TOOL: This tool allows
you to add colour to your drawing. This tool enables you to apply uniform,
pattern, fountain or texture transparency to your object.
16. THE OUTLINE TOOL: This tool allows you to colour the outline of an
object/text, change the thickness etc. the outline options include the
following:
a. Outline colour tool: This option is used to add color to an outline
b. Pen roll up: This option offers you quick access to the attributes of
the outline e.g. thickness and color.
c. No outline: This option is used to change unwanted applied outline.
d. The hair line: the hairline is used to change the thickness of an
outline e.g.
17. THE FILL TOOL: the fill tool allows you to change the appearance of
an object.
The fill tool fly out include the following.
a. Uniform fill dialog box
b. Fountain fill dialog box
c. Pattern fill dialog box
d. Texture fill dialog box
e. Postscript fill dialog box
HOW TO SELECT MULTIPLE OBJECTS
 Click on the pick tool
 Click on one of the object
 Hold down the shift key
 Click on other objects one after the other
Or
 Double click the pick tool to select all objects in the drawing.
HOW TO RESIZE AN OBJECT
 Click on the pick tool
 Click on the object, tiny nodes (about and nodes)
 Place the cursor on one of the nodes and drag horizontally or
Vertically to increase or increase or reduce the size of you object.
ROTATING AN OBJECT.
 Click on the pick tool

 Double click the object some arrow shapes appears round the
object
 Place you cursor on one of the object (a) by dragging (b) using
arrow keys.
TO MOVE AN DROP
 Select the object with the pick tool
 Control the direction by using the arrow on the keyboard
TO GROUP OBJECT.
 Objects are grouped together to allow you to apply the same
format to it as one object.
STEPS
 Select all the object with pick tool
 Click on arrange menu
 Click on group.
 OR
 Select the grouped object
 Right click on the selected object.
 Click ungroup.
LOCKING/UNLOCKING
This command restricts objects (s) from moving resizing, cloning etc.
TO LOCK AN OBJECT.
 Select the object
 Click on arrange menu
 Select unlock
TO UNLOCK
 Repeat step land2
 Select unlock
DUPLICATING/CLONING
 These commands produce another copy of the objects or text, the
difference between the two is in cloning made to original copy
affect the downed object.
TO DUPLICATE OBJECT.
 Select the object to be duplicated click edit menu
 Click edit menu
 Click duplicate
 OR
 CTRL key on the key board.
 OR
 Select the object
 Press the plus sign (+) on the right hand side

TO CLONE AN OBJECT.
 Select the object
 Click edit menu
 Click clone.
TO DELETE AN OBJECT
 Select the object
 Click edit
 Click delete
 OR
 Select the object
 Press delete key
UNDO
This command enable reverses your previous action
 Click edit
 Click undo
CHANGING AN ORDER OF OBJECT.
When you have multiple object overlapping one another in your drawing
this command is used to rearrange then accordingly
 Select the object to be rearranged
 Click arrange menu
 Select order and choose to front, to back etc.
TO ALIGN TEXT
 Select the text
 Click text a dialog box appears with the following option font align
and space.
 Click align
 Select left, right, or centre.
TO ROUND THE ANGLES OF A RECTANGLE/SQUARE
 Select the object with the shape tool
 Drag on of the nodes inwardly
 Drag with the cursor outside the pen.
TO SHAPE A POLYGON/STAR.
 Select the object
 Click the shape took
 Click the node of the object and shape to any point
TO CHANGE THE NUMBER OR SIDES OF A POLYGON.
 Select the polygon with the pick tool
 Type the blue in the number of sides box on the property bar
 Press enter key.
 LINE AND CURVE.
 With shape tool, straight line can be shape to curve and curve line
can shape to straight line by editing its nodes and segments.
 Select the line or curve
 Click the shape tool
 Click one of the node of line/curve with the shape tool.
 Drag the line to form a curve and a curve to form a line
ADDING NODES

 Nodes(s) can be added to an object to create a desired shape
 Click the curve object with shape tool
 Click the node button(s) on the property bar
REMOVING NODES
 Click the curved object with shape tool
 Click the delete node(s) on the property bar
HOW TO SHAPE A CURVED OBJECT BY MOVING ITS NODES
 Select the curve object with shape tool
 Drag a node to reshape the curve
TO STRETCH (OR SCALE) PARTS OF A CURVED OBJECT
 Select the curve object with shape tool
 Select the node, the curve you want to transform
 Click the stretch and scales node button on the property bar, like
handles appear
 Drag the side handles to stretch
TO ROTATE (OR SKEW) PARTS OF CURVED OBJECT
 Follow steps land 2 from the previous procedure
 Click the rotational skew nodes button on the property bar eight
rotating skewing handles display
 Drag the corner handles to rotate the selected nodes, or drag the
side handle to skew the selected nodes.
KERNING CHARACTER
 Kerning simply means, increasing/decreasing the spaces between
characters, word or lines.
 Select the text width the pick tool
 Click text menu
 Click spacing
 Select in character word or interline spacing.
OR
 Select the text
 Press and hold CTRL + SHIFT key
 Press the greater than sign (>) on the key board to increase
between characters.
 Press less than (<) to reduce the space between characters.
TO KERN TEXT WITH THE SHAPE TOOL
 Open the shape edit fly-out and select the shape tool
 Select the next with the shape tool
 Press CTRL key and select the node left to the character you want
to kern
 Drag the object to adjust the spacing you required.
SHAPENING ARTISTIC TEXT
 When an artistic text is converted to a curved object already, the
shape tool can shape the individual characters as you desire.
TO CONVERT AN ARTISTIC TEXT
 Select the text with the pick tool
 Select arrange (from the menu bar)
 Choose convert to curves

CROPPING A BITMAP.
Cropping a bitmap means to cur off unwanted parts of the bitmap (a
graphic image) it reduces the visible area to the original size of bitmap
 Open the shape edit fly out and select shape tool
 Select the bitmap with the shape tool
 Drag the bitmap with the shape of the bitmap outline
 Click on the pick tool.
Knife tool
TO SPLIT AN OBJECT ALONG A STRAIGHT LINE.
 Select the object
 Pick eraser tool
 Click and drag over the object.
Free transform tool
TO TRANSFORM OBJECT USING TRANSFORM TOOL
 Open the shape tool fly out
 Select the free transform tool
 Click one of the following tools on property bar
 Free scale tool
 Free slew tool
 Select the object to transform
 Follow the previous procedure for the transforming
TO TRANSFORM OBJECT QUICKLY WITH PICK TOOL
 Select the shape with the pick tool
 Enter new values in the appropriate boxes on the property bar and
press enter key Rectangle tool
TO DRAW A SIMPLE RECTANGLE
 Select the rectangle tool
 Position the cursor where the rectangle to display
 Draw diagonally to draw the rectangle Not; you can double click the
rectangle tool to create a rectangle that will cover the drawing page
TO DRAW SIMPLE SQUARE
 Select the rectangle tool
 Position the cursor where you want the square to display
 Hold down CTRL key and drag diagonally
Or
 Press f6 key to select the rectangle tool
The zoom tool
TO VIEW OBJECT TO AN ACTUAL SIZE
 Click on the zoom tool in the tool box
 Right Click on the mouse button
 Select zoom to 1.1
Or
 Press f3 key to active the zoom tool
TO MAGNIFY DRAWING USING THE MOUSE
 Click to select the zoom tool on the box
 Embraced the object(s) with the magnifying
 Releases the mouse

TO DRAW A SIMPLE POLYGON
 Click to select the polygon tool from the tool box
 Place the cursor where you want the polygon to appear
 Drag to draw to your desired size
TO DRAW A STAR
 Select the polygon tool on the tool box
 Place the cursor where you want the star to appear
 Drag down diagonally to your desired size
 Select the star button on the property bar
Spiral tool
TO DRAW A LOGARITHIMIC SPIRAL
 Click to select the spiral tool from the tool box
 Type the number of the spiral revolution yo want in the page
 Select logarithmic spiral button in the property bar

 Select the graph paper tool on the tool box
 Place the cursor where you want graph paper to appear
 Drag down diagonally to draw graph paper to your desired size

TO BLEND TWO OBJECTS
 Select the interactive blend tool from the tool box
 Drag the end handle of one of the object over the other
Interactive envelope tool
TO USE INTERACTIVE INVELOPE TOOL
 Select the interactive Envelope tool in the tool box
 Select the object you want apply the envelope select the type of
the editing mode you want in the property bar
 Drag the node to change the shape of the object

HOW TO EXTRUDE AN OBJECT
 Select the interactive Extrude tool in the tool box
 Select the object you want to extrude and drag it to you desire

TO APPLY A DROP SHADOW TO TEXT OBJECT
 Click the interactive tools
 Select the interactive shadow tool in the box
 Select the text/object you want to apply the drop shadow on the
property bar click to select one of the following options
- RIGHT PERSPECTIVE
- LEFT PRESPECTIVE
- FLAT PRESPECTIVE
- BUTTON PRESPECTIVE
 Drag the handle to position the drop shadow as desired

 Interactive distortion tool
TO APPLY DISTORTION TO AN OBJECT/TEXT
 Click the interactive tool fly-out in the tool box
 Select the interactive distortion on the property bar, select one
of the following plus/pull distortions
Zipper distortions
 Select the object/text to be distorted
 Drag the handle to determine the dimension of the effect
Free hand tool,
TO DRAW STRIAGHT LINE
 Select the freehand tool
 Place the cursor where you want the line to begin and
 Hold the CRTL key on the keyboard
 Take the cursor where you want the line to end
Ellipse tool

 Select the text using the pick tool

 Take the cursor where you want to edit and make your

TO HIGHLICHT A TEXT
 Click the text to be highlighted with the pick tool
 Click text tool on the tool box
 Place the cursor where you want to highlight and drag across the
area
TO APPLY FOUNTAIN FILL
 Click to select the object with the pick tool
 Select the interactive fill tool and select colour in the palette
 You can choose different types of fills from the property bar
TO APPLY UNIFORM FILL TO AN OBJECT
 Click to select the object with the pick tool
 From the fill option click to select the fountain fill
 Choose the fountain type e.g. linear, radial, conical or square

 Click the front box color button to select your desired color
 Click on the tool box color button to select the color of your
choice
 Click OK
TO CREATE A TEXTURE FILL
 Select the object you want to fill/using the pick tool
 Select the texture from the library
 Make your choice from the library
 Click OK
TO CREATE POSTSCTIPT FILL
 Select the object you want to apply postscript fill
 From the fill option, select the postscript fill
 Select the type of your choice
 Click preview fill
 Click OK
HOW TO FIT TEXT TO PATH
 Select the path e.g. circle and rectangle
 Hold down the shift key
 Click on text menu
 Click fit text to path
 Pointer turns to a block arrow
 Click inside the shape you have drowned

TO ALIGN TEXT TO RIGHT, LEFT, CENTRE ETC.


 Select the text using the pick tool
 Click text menu
 Click font
 Click align
 … from the options displayed, select right, left centre etc.
HOW TO CHANGE CASE.
 Select the text with the pick tool
 Click text menu
 Click change case
 Select upper case, sentence, title etc.
TO SKEW AN OBJECT
 Click on the object twice with pick tool
 Place your cursor on one of the skewing handles.
 Skew by dragging to the left or right hand side
TO RESIZE AN OBJECT
 Select the object using the pick tool
 Click to transform and click on scale and mirror
 Type the 11 and c boxes
 Click apply
TO MIRROR AN OBJECT
 Select the object using the pick tool
 Place your cursor n one of the sizing nodes and drag to the
opposite direction

 Release the mouse button
TO GET SYMBOLS AND CHARACTERS
 Click on tools menu
 Click symbols and characters
 From the dialogue box that appears
 Click on the end choose symbols name of your choice e.g.
windings
 Click on any symbols you want and drag it out
HOW TO WELD AN OBJECT
 Draw two objects that overlap
 Marquee select them
 Click on weld button on the property bar
HOW TO TRIM AN OBJECT
 Draw two object that overlap
 Marquee select them
 Click on trim button on the property bar
 The trimmed one will be selected
 Click and drag it away from the other.
HOW TO CUT, COPY AND PASTE BETWEEN
TWO PROGRAMS.
 Select the object or text you want to cut or copy
 Click on cut/copy on the standard tool bar
 Open edit menu and choose either cut or copy
 Minimize the programmed you have copied or cut from
 Open the programmed you want to paste into it.
 Click n edit menu
 Click on paste
OR
 Click n paste on the standard bar
HOW TO PLACE A PICTURE IN A CONTAINER
 Draw the container
 Select your picture
 Click effect under the menu bar
 Point to power clip (the mouse pointer to big arrow)
 Move to the object and click right inside the container
HOW TO EDIT CONTENTS
 Select the object in the container
 Right click on it.
Or
 Click on finish editing the content
HOW TO PRINT PREVIEW
 Preview is simply viewing your work to see how it will appear when
printed out
 Click on file menu
 Click on print preview
Or
 Click on print preview on the standard tool bar

 After taking a look at your previewed word
 Do the necessary corrections.
 Click on close
HOW TO APPLY GAMA TO OBJECT
 Select the object
 Click on bitmap menu
 Click on convert to bitmap
 Click on adjusted Gama the property bar
 In the Gama dialog box
 Make the change
 Click on OK
HOW TO APPLY PLASTIC ON TEXT OR OBJECT
 Type the text or draw the object
 If it is text, give it size color
 Click bitmap on the menu bar
 Click on convert to bitmap on the property bat
 In the edit bitmap dialog box
 Click on effect menu
 Point on texture
 Click n plastic
 On the dialog box make a setting
 Save it with a file name and close
 Go to import a dialog box appear
 Click on the file name
 Click import
HOW TO INSERT NEW OBJECT
 Click on edit menu
 Click on insert new object select the file you want to get from e.g.
word clip galley, chart etc
 Click on OK
HOW TO APPLY PAGE CURVE
 Select the object you want to apply page curve to
 Click on bitmap effect
 Click on convert to bitmap
 Point to e-d effect
 Click on page curve
 Select the one of your choice
 Click Ok
HOW TO SCAN A PICTURE
 Insert the picture in the scanning machine
 Click on file menu
 Click on acquire image
 Click on acquire
 On acquire dialog box click on preview
 After previewing the picture
 Click on scan.
HOW TO SEPARATE COLOUR

 Click on file menu
 Click on print preview
 In the print preview dialog box, click on enable color separation on
the status bar which are cyan, magenta, yellow and black.
 Click on mirror print on the property bar and print them one after
the other
HOW TO PRINT
 Click file on the menu tool bar
 Click on print
Or
 Click on print icon on the standard tool bar
 Click on properties
 From the print properties dialogue box, select the paper
orientation.
 Click OK and then preview
 In the preview environment, click on the printer logo on the
property bar or
 Right click in the environment, ant click on Print this sheet now for
the current page.
 Or click also on print.
 On the keyboard press CTRL + P for print action.
