EMBODIMENT DESIGN
• This is where the product that is
being designed begins to take
shape.
• Finalizing the product
architecture (Drawing)
• Determine the form or shape of
part that will satisfy the required
functions
• Quantifying the important design
parameter
• It also called as analytical design
75
EMBODIMENT DESIGN ( MACRO TO MICRO)
76
EMBODIMENT DESIGN
• In the design process, drawings may be
used to serve the following objectives.
1. Drawings are the preferred form of data
communications in the world of engineering.
2. Drawings are used to communicate ideas
between the designers themselves and
between the designers and manufacturing
personnel.
3. Drawings simulate the operation of the
product.
4. Drawings are used to check for the
completeness of the product

1.Component Selection: Choose the
specific components, materials, and
technologies that will be used in the project.

2.Technical Drawings Detailed technical
drawings are created to illustrate the design
of individual components, assemblies and
systems.

3.Prototyping : Prototypes may be built to
validate the design and identify any issues or
areas for improvement.

4. Testing :Testing is conducted to assess
performance, reliability, durability, and other key
metrics.
Analysis and Optimization
• Once a possible solution for the
stated goal has been chosen, the
synthesis phase of the design has
been completed and the analysis
phase begins.
• This is also known as 'Detailed
Design' and is what most of the
engineering courses in an
undergraduate degree program
cover.
• In essence, the solution must be
tested against the physical laws.
• The manufacturability of the
chosen product also must be
checked to ensure its
usefulness.
84
Analysis and
Optimization
A product may satisfy the physical laws,
but if it can’t be manufactured , it is a
useless product
This stage is put in iterative sequencing
with the original synthesis phase
EXPERIMENT
• • The experiment stage in engineering
design requires that a piece of hardware is
constructed and tested to verify the concept
and analysis of the design as to its work
ability, durability, and performance
characteristics.
• • Here the design on paper is transformed
into a physical reality.
• • Two techniques of construction are
available to the designer:
• • Mock-up
• • Prototype
86
Experiment (Mock-up)
• The mock-up is generally
constructed to scale from
plastics, wood, cardboard, and
so forth.
• The mock-up is often used to
check clearance, assembly
technique, manufacturing
considerations, and appearance.
• It is the least expensive
technique, provides the least
amount of information, and is
quick and relatively easy to build.
87
Experiment (Prototype)
• - Prototype:This is the most
expensive testing technique and the
one that produces the greatest
amount of useful information.
• - A prototype is a fully constructed,
functioning physical system.
• - Here, designers will see their ideas
come to life and learn about things
like proper construction techniques,
assembly processes, workability,
durability and performance in real-
world conditions...
