Creative PSLE Maths - Model Drawing Answers

1. Reverse Age Puzzle

Model:
[Anna] = 3 units
[Ben] = 1 unit
5 years ago:
[Anna] = 3 units - 5
[Ben] = 1 unit - 5
Model shows: Anna = 5 x Ben
So:
3x - 5 = 5(x - 5)
Solve: x = 10
Ben = 10, Anna = 30

2. Sharing Sweets with a Twist

Model:
Total = 4 boxes (Amy 1, Remainder 3)
Belle gets 1/3 of 3 = 1 box
Cathy = remaining = 2 boxes
Model shows: Cathy - Belle = 1 box = 30
So 1 box = 30, Total = 4 boxes = 120 sweets

3. Speed + Time Comparison

Model:
Distance to park = D
Time taken: D/6 + D/12 = 1 hour
Model: Split line into 6 + 12 = 18 units
Jog = 2/3 of total time, Cycle = 1/3
Solve equation: D = 4 km

4. Money Puzzle
Model:
$5 notes = x, $2 notes = 3x
Draw 3 long bars ($2) and 1 short ($5) for each group
Total = 11x, Spend = 20 -> Remaining = 62
Equation: 11x - 20 = 62 -> x = 8
$2 notes = 24

5. Box Repacking with Remainder

Model:
First method: 8 per box, left 5 -> x = 8a + 5
Second method: 10 per box, short 3 -> x = 10b - 3
Model uses number line to align two values -> solve:
8a + 5 = 10b - 3 -> Try values -> x = 37

6. Area & Perimeter Merge

Model:
Length = 3x, Width = x
Perimeter = 2(x + 3x) = 8x = 64 -> x = 8
Area = 8 x 24 = 192 cm^2
