The May monthly meeting will be held 12 noon, Tuesday, May 15 at the New Lee High School on Meridian St., Huntsville AL 35811. Attendees will receive a tour and have the opportunity interact with HCS Superintendent and NAAACC member, Dr. Casey Wardynski. 3. Legislative Alert. SB 459 introduced by Senator Blackwell (R-Birmingham) would create a single, electronic filing and remittance mechanism for city, county and stat sales and use and lease/rental taxes in Alabama. Currently the law allows localities to set and administer their own tax rate forcing Alabama retailers with multiple locations in the state to file as many as 150 returns and write up to 150 checks to up to 150 different entities each month. This bill will create the Optional Network Election for Single Point Online Transactions, in time for returns and payments due in tax periods that begin after Sept. 20, 2013. This legislation should reduce the costly administrative burden of Alabama retailers. If you support this legislation call your State Representative before the session adjourns in mid-May. 4.
