A range of companies and organisations will be exhibiting, with representatives available to talk to you about their schemes and vacancies and give you a view on what working there is like. Fairs are an excellent opportunity to find out more about companies which you may not have heard of and present yourself to the ones you have already considered. Companies graduate recruitment managers are likely to be there, so make sure you come across as prepared and professional. Graduates who are already working for the company may be there as well to tell you exactly what you can expect from some of the roles available. Be professional Recruiters at the stalls are looking for a professional attitude. Candidates need to be smartly dressed and they need to come across as lively, bright and proactive. You may want to talk to the companies you are least interested in first and leave your favoured companies until you have built up your confidence. Careers advisers are available at fairs to offer guidance on CVs, application forms and other careers issues, but once again it is better to prepare in advance.
Recruiters who attend fairs emphasise that they are not there just to give out freebies, so it is important that you maintain a professional attitude. Although no one gets a job on the spot, likely candidates will be remembered. Do your research It would be a shame to get to the front of the queue at a stall, only to waste your chance to make a good impression. Given the importance this opportunity could have for your career, preparation is essential. If you have not already done so, you need to do some serious thinking about your future and the sort of employers that interest you. Find out which employers will be attending and do some research on the ones you are keen to impress. This guide is here to inform you about where and when the fairs are taking place, and which organisations have already planned to exhibit. However, for the most up-to-date list of who is coming, be sure to visit the careers services websites. There will probably be links to the companies sites as well, which should be the first place to look in order to gain more information about them. What you find out will not only provide you with useful background knowledge it will also give you some idea of what questions to ask employers.
