Constanta`s Casino

The Casino is one of the first contructions that were built in Constanta, immediately after the city was taken by the Romanian administration, and stopped being called Kustenge. The history of the Casino begins in 1880, short time after the return of Dobrogea to Motherland. At that time it was named Cazin or Kursaal, and it was nothing but a tile building, planked exterior, raised next to the Genovese lighthouse, on the end of Elizabeth`s avenue, the only avenue in town.

Planetarium
Like a permanently opened window to the sky, Constanta`s Planetarium is like a lighthouse to the Black Sea. The first such public purpose in the country, was founded in the same year the first human put first foot on the Moon, 1969.

Aquarium
Opened on the 1st june 1972, the aquarium from Constanta is a great attraction for tourists. Beautiful mammals endowed with great intelligence amaze and entertain simultaneously. Over the years, next to dolphins appeared also seals and penguins, completing the aquatic show. It is a place that no visitor should miss.

National History and Archeology


Treasure Hall and the other 24 rooms are home to witnesses of the past history of Dobrogea, the most valuable pieces being Snake Fantastic Glikon and Pontos, The thinker of Hamangia and The woman sitting.

The statue of the poet Ovid


The statue of the poet Ovid is made by the sculptor Ettore Ferrari. The monument was increased in 1887, by town`s people through public subscription. Ovid, the great latin poet, was born in 43 a.H., being contemporary with Virgiliu and Horatiu. He was exiled to Tomis, where he died after 9 years.

Carol I Mosque
a the Carol I Mosque in Constana was commissioned in 1910 by the King of Romania and built in Moorish style. It replaced the previous mosque from 1822. It is similar to the Konya Mosque in Anatolia (Turkey). It has rich interior wall paintings. The minaret (50 m high) offers a view of city and harbour.

Saint Anthony Romano-Catholic Church


The construction in Romanesque style, was built in 1973 by the architect Simon Romano, on the place of another catholic church built in 1885. It is made of red bricks and has a square tower.

Tropaeum Traiani Monument


The Tropaeum Traiani is a monument in Roman Civitas Tropaensium (site of modern Adamclisi, Romania), built in 109 in then Moesia Inferior, to commemorate Roman Emperor Trajan's victory over the Dacians, in 102, in the Battle of Tapae. The monument was erected on the place where legio XXI Rapax had previously been defeated in 92. Before Trajan's construction, an altar existed there, on the walls of which were inscribed the names of the 3,000 legionaries and auxilia (servicemen) who had died "fighting for the Republic". (Latin: Tropaeum from Greek: Tropaion, source of English: "trophy").

The Genovese Lighthouse


The Genovese Lighthouse is located on the Casino`s cliff, in Constanta. It was build between 1858 and 1860, in the memory of the Genovese merchants, that attended Pontus Euxinus in the XIIIth century. It worked untill 1913, the restoration taking place 35 years later. It has 8 m height, and its light is visible till 9.5 marine miles.

Saint Andrew Cave


near lived As the Cave of St. Andrew is known a religious institution (monastery), located in Dobrogea, the village of Ion Corvin, Constanta county. It is built around a cave where tradition says that taught Christianity, St. Andrew.
