MUSIC IN THE BARNS ENSEMBLE RETURNS FOR THE SUMMERS HOTTEST TICKET Performances by groundbreaking ensemble include composition by Michael Oesterle, world premiere by Scott Godin and rarely performed Mozart Grande Sextet
Toronto, Ontario May 24, 2012/ Back by popular demand, the innovative Music in the Barns Chamber Ensemble presents a sizzling summer concert on Thursday July 5th. Having garnered an impressive reputation for their bold mix of traditional and new compositions, Music in the Barns will once again transform the urban industrial Wychwood Barns Mainspace, featuring the heritage sites first-rate acoustics as the backdrop for the full evening of chamber music. Kicking off with a Q&A pre-concert chat featuring composers Michael Oesterle and Scott Godin, the informal talk will be followed by the performance part of the evening. Leading with Daydream Mechanics V, Mr. Oesterles first string quartet, the multiple award-winning, Montreal-based composers works have been performed and commissioned by orchestras internationally, including Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra and the National Arts Centre Orchestra. Named after a book by Quebec poet, Nicole Brossard, the inventive Daydream Mechanics V uses mechanistic aural devices as its compositional foundation. Following the quartet will be the World Premiere of Canadian composer Scott Godins reworked quintet all that is solid melts into the air. The Five-time SOCAN Young Composer Composition winner, a visiting assistant professor at Dalhousie University, originally composed the piece for clarinet and recently adapted it for the Music in the Barns Chamber Ensemble. The centerpiece for the evening is the rarely performed W.A. Mozarts Grande Sestetto Concertante. Based on Mozarts Sinfonia Concertante composed in 1779, the sextet is the 1808 arrangement of Mozarts great masterpiece. The piece perfectly sums up the Ensembles vision of showcasing classical music in all its forms and ensuring the genre remains relevant and timeless.
