SECTION I.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION
CORE DRILLING
Drill 54 60 Bore holes ranging from 25-30m depth at 900 to the ground with a swivel split double tube core barrel and perform the boring, with the same size all over the depth of a specific borehole except using larger diameter at the top, in accordance with ASTM D2113. Core samples should carefully be placed in a sample Box which will be kept on site store until site/project handover. Borehole logs will contain at least the following information: Name of the borehole, Date of realization, Identification of drilling machine used, Checked coordinates in UTM system (UTM WGS 84) Position of core samples, Recuperation average, Fluids and bit used for drilling, Lithological and geological description, Groundwater level intercepted during drilling if there was any/ dry mention on contrary, Description of piezometer equipment, SPT results N-value and N0, N1, N2, In rocks logs should give all the information needed for rock Rock Mass Rating with Bieniawskys RMR or Bartons Q method, and at least the following informations: Drill Core Quality (RQD) Spacing of discontinuity, Condition of discontinuities (roughness, filling, dipping) Colour photographs of all the cores Any comments useful to understand the log (mechanical problem, The contractor will drill core bore holes at points selected by the Employer The size of the core should be the same all over the depth of a specific borehole.

TEST PIT
Two test pits per foundation shall be dug with an excavator, i.e. there will be a total of 108 test pits. Topsoil and turfs are stripped and stored separately from other excavated material and reused at the surface when reinstate.

The test pits are excavated with dimension of 1.5m X 2m to an agreed depth of maximal about 4.5m, or until the sides become unstable, an obstruction is encountered, or bedrock is reached.

Following water strike, the flow and level are recorded over a 20-minute period. Water samples are taken following a water strike. When the test pit is complete, the contractor records and photographs all details regarding the test pit. The test pit is to be backfilled in reverse order, to which it was excavated and compacted to reduce later settlement.

Sampling
Core samples will be collected for uniaxial Compressive strength test. The frequency of sampling will be decided by the Employers representative Trial pitting allows for fairly strata-specific sampling, because the geotechnical engineer can see the strata changing. The drilling crew usually follows a specific sampling strategy, regardless of strata changes since these are not immediately visible. Therefore, it is common that drillers take different types of sample at approximately every three meters (the employer will decide) even with the same soil type. The samples alone do not convey where the strata change, but a driller can drop a tape down the test pit and note this information in the drillers logs.

LABORATORY TEST
General Requirements and Standards

The purpose of the laboratory testing program is to define the rock/soil classification, rock/soil stratigraphy, and the relevant engineering properties of the encountered rocks/soils. Laboratory analysis testing should be conducted and combined with geologic information to classify the rocks/soils and determine the stratification. The selection of appropriate laboratory tests is left to the discretion of the Employeyers geotechnical engineer.

All laboratory tests should be performed at certified Laboratory and calibration certificate has to be submitted to the Employer. Water samples either from bore hole or test pit has to be tested for: Over all chemical analysis-ASTM D3370

Minimum Series tests

Relevant soil parameters should be given for every layer. These parameters include strength data, classification test results, and moisture content. For cohesive soils, Atterberg limits, dry density, strength tests, and minus 200 sieve tests should all be performed on at least one sample within each distinct layer. For granular soils, minus 200 sieve tests should be conducted on at least one sample.

Description and Classification of Rocks/ Soils The subsurface stratification should be clearly defined and soils should be classified according to the appropriate ASTM standards and to laboratory The classification tests. Wherever a soil sample or soil type is referenced in the report, the ASTM and USCS group name and symbol should be provided. Employer requires that the boring log soil descriptions be in the order of the

ASTM/USCS classification and group symbol [e.g. Fat Clay (CH)], followed by the consistency [e.g. stiff, very stiff, loose, etc], followed by a descriptor for plasticity [e.g. slight plasticity, highly plastic, etc],followed by the color, followed by a description of the moisture conditions. The consistency of cohesive soils should be described as very soft, soft, firm, stiff, very stiff, or hard. The relative density of cohesionless soils including silts shall be described as very loose, loose, medium dense, dense, and very dense. Soil group name and consistency should also be shown on soil profiles taken through the boring locations so as to represent the site subsurface soil conditions. The core log of Rock samples should include their colour, texture, RQD and field strength characteristics.

FIELD TEST
Piezometers Temporary piezometers (25-40mm diameter) should be installed when included in the project scope. The piezometers should be read at least 24-hours after initial installation and periodically during 30 days after installation. Physical and Engineering property of soils Engineering properties for cohesive soils such as shear strength shall be estimated using pocket penetrometer and/or torvane tests for cohesive soils Standard Penetration Test (SPT) should be performed on granular and cohesive soils. Description and identification of Soils (Visual-Manual Procedure)-ASTM D2488 ASTM G57-Field measurement of soil resistively using the Wenner four electrode Method. Rock compressive strength Schmidt hammer will be used to determine the compressive strength of rocks in a test pit exposure.

REPORT
One soft and two hard copy Core log and test pit logging should be submitted within Three days after the completion of borehole/test pit. After the samples are disposed of the report will be the only record of the site investigation. A descriptive report usually contains an introduction, descriptions of the site, the underlying geology, and the fieldwork as well as details of the trial pit and borehole logs, followed by the incidence and behavior of groundwater, the location of the boreholes, and the results of the laboratory tests. The BS 5930:1999 states that for trial pitting the following information should be recorded in the log: A description of each stratum together with its thickness. One advantage of trial pitting over boring is the opportunity to examine in-situ the variability of the strata and strata boundaries. comment about the variable a sketch presented. The depth of each change of stratum The depth and position of each sample, including the lateral and vertical extent of larger samples such as bulks or blocks. The depth and position of each test and the nature of the test. The dates of Drilling/excavation and logging; Details of equipment in use, including Drilling Machine/excavator type, Barrel Diameter/bucket size, etc A record of groundwater conditions, including levels and estimated quantities. A record of the ease of Drilling/excavation of the strata. A record of the stability of the sides of the excavation. Comment on the weather conditions. A record of depth range examined in-situ or logged on arisings. Details of any instrumentation installed and method of backfilling. A sketch plan showing dimensions and orientation of pit, face reference numbers and location of landmarks Where these the are pit. not variable, the a simple is diagrammatic borehole log type presentation of a) and b) is acceptable with a uniformity of one around Where ground or more faces to show the variability should be

Trial pit photographic records should include one or more faces and the spoil heap; all photographs should include a suitable and legible reference board. Artificial or flash lighting is normally required.

Laboratory test results should be submitted to the Employer One week after the collection of samples. The final stage of the report should include an engineering interpretation based on information related to the project supplied by the designer and the ground parameters selected from the summary of ground conditions report. Allowable bearing capacity Recommendations for the most suitable foundation type

Recommendations for special conditions such as expansive soils, sulphate attach on concrete, slope stability etc. Angle of internal friction and cohesion
