LAST SCREAM

Synopsis: A group of rich students who think high of themselves come out with ideas for dancing competition. They are managed by a teacher who does not think that he is good enough to teach these elite students. The teacher has to act and think higher than these rich kids in term of dressing, ideas and how he brings himself out in front of them. Then, there is a new student, poor but as talented as the rest. This boy wants to be part of the casts. The students are all selected. They have to work together despite their differences. The teacher has to work extra harder until he falls sick. On the very day of the competition, Gan Huay Yins parents are not able to come. Even though she is wealthy, she realizes that she still feels so lonely and unhappy. Their teacher meets an accident on his way to the competition. (Ambulance siren and loud scream can be heard from the background). The children do not know about the accident and have to perform without their teacher. They win the competition (everyone screams with joy). They get to know about their teachers death after that. [MUHD AZIZI B. SALIM] Azizi: Tries to fit in, a bit quiet, a very loyal follower.

[AMREJ SINGH DHALIWAL] Amrej: Another loyal follower who tries to fit in.

[NUR AIZZAT AFFEQ B. NORDIN] Aizat: Talented, but poor, low self-esteem.

[ERIC KOH YUAN HONG] Eric: Aizats best friend.

[EDWIN A/L PHILIP THOMAS] Mr Edwin: A very hardworking teacher with low self-esteem.

[AINOL ASRI B. IMRAN] Mr. Ainoll : Mr. Edwins colleague. A discipline teacher. Talkative.

Time and place Present day Scene One A group of students wait impatiently for their teacher outside the classroom. They look smart, very rich and proud. They talk very loud for the world to hear. Kim Mun: It seems like he is forgetting something. We are here waiting for him. I hate this feeling. You know. Huay Yin: Kim Mun, theres nothing to worry about now. We are the best. Well get the roles. Dont worry. Azizi : No you shouldnt. Kim Mun: I suppose not... (Something still seems to bother her) Surren: I heard Aizat wants to join the competition too. Kim Mun & Azizi: what? Huay Yin: You meanThat Aizat? One who walks around the school with torn shoes?! Surren: ohhh..I dont want him in the team. Yes, that AIZAT. Amrej: I heard hes good. I meanwe all know that he is not rich but Huay Yin: BUT HE DOES NOT FIT IN! Right Kim Mun? Amrej: Why not?

Students: Teacher!!!! You are lateVery late. Yea (each shows frustration) Mr Edwin: Hello there. How is everybody? Im very sorry that Im late. I was in the meeting just now. Well tell me what we have here today. Kim Mun: I get you the CD with few songs for you to choose from. Here it is. And I think we can do it. I want to be the lead dancer (smiles). I can do this. I know im good at it Huay Yin: Hello, excuse meI can do it better you know. Teacher trust me, I can do better than Kim Mun. Azizi: Yea, Huay Yin can do it Huay Yin: Thanks Azizi (giggling) Surren: Azizi, you are a bona-fide YESMAN. Amrej: Surren, give me five! Heh Mr. Edwin: Boys and girls! Please behave (a bit serious) Kim Mun: Teacher, I insist we use my CD and I want to do the lead. I insist. I can do this better than anyone else. You know that right. Unless u dont like me and u have someone else better than me in mind and if u do I wonder who is that person might be ey? Mr. Edwin: not that I have someone else in my mind.but Kim Mun: Very good. Then its done. I ll play the lead. My mummy and daddy are going to be there to watch and support me. Ohhh they will be very proud of me. Huay Yin: Oh really? Because my parents will be there too and your parents are always busy. Mr. Edwin: Huay Yin. Kim Mun: Huay Yin. Dont Start it. My parents will come... Huay Yin: Or maybeyour maid will come. want to see your homework on my table tomorrow morning okay) Exit. Scene Two Mr. Edwin was about to sit when Aizat and Eric enter. Aizat: Sir. Mr. Edwin: Boys. Aizat: Hello sirwe are very sorry to disturb you. Mr. Edwin: No, no, noits alright. What can I do for you both? Aizat and Eric right? Aizat: We are Eric: We? Whos weNo Teacher: yes? Eric: well sir, Aizat is interested to join the competition. Aizat: Eric and I are interested to join the competition sir. I mean if there is Eric: No, im not interested Aizat: (turns to eric) come on eric. I cant do this alone. I need you. Teacher: (laughs) Now, don't be shy like that. You boys are welcome to join us. Aizat: thank you sir. Thank you very much. They exit the stage. Mr. Edwin finally gets to sit down. He massages his forehead. His colleague, Mr. Ainol enters. He is a discipline teacher. Mr. Ainol : Looks like someone is having headache. (taps Edwins shoulder) How is your day Edwin? Rough day rigt?... (smiles) Mr Edwin: Im feeling a bit under the wheather. Mmm it was. Discipline teacher: you know what happened today? I found form 3 students hiding behind the school toilet during recess. They were smoking you see Mr Edwin: mmm that bad. Mmm im sure you have too many things to doim going to make a move now Mr. Ainol: waitdont you want to know what happened next? Mr Edwin: we ll talk about it tomorrow. (he walks away and turns back) By the way Ainol, I heard that our school is haunted. The guards hear things at night. (exit) Eeriee music

Mr. Ainul: O my God.im out of here (exit) .Edwin wait!! Scene three Students rehearse. First rehearsal. Students move around. Yoges: we are going to start now, hurry up!!! Take your place! Everyone moves with the music. Mr Edwin enters. He takes his seat. Background music fades. Students walk out. Aizat and Eric stay to clean the mess. Huay Yin: Hey buddy. Make sure u come early tomorrow. Get this place ready before we start our rehearsal. Surren: Huay Yin, they are just an eyesore. Mr Edwin: Come here boy. Sit down. Dont take them seriously aizat. They dont mean bad. They are just being playful. Thats all. I hope you are fine (exit) Aizat wipes his nose with his sleeve. Emotion runs deep. Eric: Aizat? Lets go Eric and aizat exit.

Scene four Aizat enters. He looks around to check what he can do. Then, he sits, very still. Background voice. Huay Yin: Aizat! Aizat! Open the door. Aizat! Open this door now!!! Aizat: Push it! Its not lock. Huay Yin and Surren enter and scold Aizat. Huay Yin: Stubborn headed boy. If I ask you to open the door, you open the door, ok!!! Eric enters. He tries to calm his friends down. Eric: Hey! Back off!! They push him aside and push Aizat. Mr. Edwin enters and yells them to stop. Mr Edwin: Children!!! What is this?? Huh? (he pauses) From what I know, where we come from, we talk if we have issues. We dont charge at each other barbarically. Huay Yin! Surren! Must you treat you friends that way? Is this necessary? Tell me! Huay Yin & Surren : No Mr. Edwin: Today is our final rehearsal. Tomorrow is our competition!! Look at you guys!!!

(other students enter one by one. Surprise looks on their faces). Mr. Edwin: Children!!! Everyone!!! Do you want to win?! Students: Yes/ We want to win! / Yea! Mr. Edwin: Do u believe that we can win?! Students: Yes we do!/ Yes Mr. Edwin: Then stop fighting among ourselves. I say, if we truly believe we can win, we can make it! Students cheer. Some clap their hands. Music. Rehearsal. Students exit. __________________________________________________________________________________ Scene five Alarm clock rings. Sound of morning chores. Newspapers on the floor. Mom enters. She does some laundry. Mr. Edwins father enters. He sit down and reads newspapers. Mr. Edwin enters. He looks pale. He coughs. Mr Edwins Father: Edwin? You dont look well at all. You should stay at home. Mr Edwin: Im alright Pak. I took some aspirin just now (he coughs again). Mr Edwins father: I dont feel good about this Edwin. You look horrible. Please be careful when you drive. Mr. Edwin: I will Pak. See you later. Ill come back early so we can have lunch together. Mr. Edwins parents exit. Edwin walks out. Sound of motorcycle. Loud crash and painful scream. Ambulance siren. __________________________________________________________________________________ Scene 6 Students prepare the stage. Kim Mun looks sad, searching for her parents among the audience. They are nowhere to be found. Kim Mun: (Talks to herself) where are they? Huay Yin: Here you are! Kim Mun, looki know why you are sad. Im sorry for saying such ugly thing about your parents last time. It was silly of me. Kim Mun: No. dont be sorry. You were right. They are hardly there for me. They go to work early, and come home late. Busy they say. All the time. (deep sigh) Huay Yin: No Kim Mun. I was wrong. They love you. They have to work hard to give you everything you need. Kim Mun: What i need is love. Attention. Thats what I need.

Huay Yin: Cheer up Kim Mun. They love you. Parents love their kids. You can always talk to them and let them know how you feel. I bet they will understand. Come, lets go. Its our turn, Cheerful music. Students enter and do their dance moves. Music stops. Two presenters enter and announce the winner: The winner is Beauty and the beast team. (Big and loud cheers pre-recorded) The students enter. They scream with joy holding their trophy when suddenly someone rushes in and pulls one of them aside. Mr Edwin died in a freak accident involving a big truck. All walk out. Sad. Sad music. All enter. In black. Its Mr. Edwins funeral. Mr. Edwins parents enter. Sad. Aizat and Kim Mun hand the trophy out to Mr. Edwins mother. Kim Mun: Pakcik, makcik. This trophy is for our teacher, Mr. Edwin.
