ADVENTurous Exhibition Call for Submissions:

ADVENTurous is the theme for Engedi Arts exhibition planned for December 2012 We are calling for submissions to create a walk through mixed media exhibition to be held for a month in 3 UK venues over the period of advent: Colwyn Bay, Leeds and Islington, London Brief: The theme ADVENTurous seeks to explore the biblical story of advent, or coming. Artists are also expected to channel their responses in the light of the following three ideas and their relevance to contemporary culture: -FAITH where we are? -ECONOMY where we are going? -ECOLOGY How we get there? These ideas should then be framed within a context of Risk Taking and Adventure. Each piece should be titled in association to one of the following words: PROPHET SILENCE STAR ZECHARIAH ELIZABETH MARY GABRIEL JOSEPH DONKEY BETHLEHEM INN STABLE SHEPHERD HEAVENS CHORUS LAMB MAGI (JOURNEY) MAGI (FOLLOWING) MAGI (HEROD) FRANKINCENSE GOLD MYRRH JERUSALEM HEROD MANGER JESUS Artists may submit for one or several of the titles, whilst keeping each piece as a separate submission. Dates: Ideas for submissions need to be received by JULY 31st If you are selected you will be advised in the first week in August Final Pieces need to be received no later than Oct 31st Exhibition Opens 1st December 2012 in London, LEEDS and North Wales Where The Exhibition will be held in three partnering venues across the UK A selection of the work will be hung at Union Chapel in Islington London, as part of a conference called ADVENTurous hosted by Greenbelt Festival and partners with speaker Mike Frost and others. http://www.unionchapel.org.uk/ Engedi Arts will host an exhibition in Colwyn Bay - North Wales, over the advent period http://engediarts.blogspot.co.uk/ SMartproductions will host an exhibition at Leftbank Leeds over the advent period http://www.leftbankleeds.org.uk/

Application: All submissions will be considered for the London Exhibition And then: Ideas for submission to Engedi Arts exhibition- Colwyn Bay should be sent via email to curator@engediarts.com Ideas for submission to LeftBank Leeds exhibition - should be sent via email to si@simonsmithillustrator.co.uk All Applications should be accompanied with artists CV and contact information, including web links and other interesting info. Fees: There are no fees for entering ideas for submissions All artists must cover costs of producing work, providing plinths where necessary and transportation of work to and from the exhibition. Artists selected to exhibit in London will be contacted and arrangement for transport to London negotiated on an individual basis. Artists are advised to insure valuable pieces over 1000, although venues will have their own insurance for accidental damage although this is usually only a minimal amount of cover. Types of submission: We are looking for creative ways of expressing the given brief Traditional 2D images in any medium Creative intuitive installations Soundscapes and interactive media Poetry and song writing including creative ways of representing it ie. videos/sound bites/audio Tracks/interactive websites Photography in any creative form 3D sculpture/metalwork/pottery/ceramics/etc Videography Light theatre/installation

Submissions for LeftBank Leeds exhibition need to be 2D due to the nature of other events going on within the building, but please contact Si at the above email with your ideas.
